UT99 was the 2nd game I ever played. I'll be playing this for sure.

Got the pre-alpha client and loaded it up, noticed some odd looks of red, but oh god it's beautiful anyway.

Max settings on autodetect with a single 980.

    There's no way I can't play this.
UT is one of my all-time favourite franchises! XD

Last time I looked at it, there weren't any textures associated to the map.
It's interesting to see how it's progressed, I already love it!

Yeah got it downloaded this weekend, but haven't had a chance to play it yet.  I am REALLY looking forward to this, many MANY years ago I used to run a CTF team in UT99.  Form what I have seen so far, this is the UT that looks like it is trying to recapture the feel of UT99, and UT99 Turbo mode was the best, still is, hope this one will surpass.  I love twitch shooters, and 2k3 was ok, 2k4 was really lacking until heavily modded, UT3 I did not care for, felt like I was running in mud.

But this is also coming with mod tools so if there is a setting I don't like, I can change it as I mainly play in closed games with friends.

I hope to see a lot of the various classic game types, like both versions of Domination, I figure DM, TDM and CTF go without saying, but 1 flag CTF and bombing run need to be back, hell also Jail Break.

On a semi-related note, I had been playing a game in Alpha, another old school twitch shooter, it is new but meant to have that 1995-1999 era feel to it again, Toxxik, very raw needs work and more maps, but so far it was pretty fun.

This game finally looks like I'll have a worthy successor to the speed of UT99 with the variability of UT2004

I have run into some bugs, but so far very nice.

Seems like they nerfed the rocket launcher from previous version though. Unless you hit within 2" of them, they seem to take no damage.

Shock gun seems to have gotten a buff. I can right click and then hit the sphere and do a crazy amount of damage.

Only obvious bugs I have seen is AI getting stuck under elevators, there is a map where one team piles up in a corner and can't figure out how to get out. Lots of two enemies standing right next to each other that just seem to be totally cool with each other.

I wonder if there is a way to turn off the headshot indication with the sniper rifle. Seems take a bit of the fun away IMO.

Shock combo's been a thing for a long time. Unsure on the rocket launcher as I've gotten a fair amount of splash.

Still immensely promising for pre-alpha, no?

I know the combo was around, seems like it does lots more damage in this iteration.

And to the second comment. H*** yes its promising, this is by far the best running and looking pre alpha I have dealt with. Heck save for the skins missing in lots of the maps, this game feels like its in beta stages. Still think the AI needs some work if you're playing with bots though.

Unfortunately, real life has gotten in the way of video games recently (shakes fist at world in general) how would you say it feels, UT99 the fluidity and aim of it was OK, but frankly, I think Q3 had the best "feel" for a rocket launcher.

Also, how is the minigun?  I remember in 2k4 the minigun was almost completely negated by armor, hopefully that is not the case here.

As for AI bugs, at this stage I am really not worried about it.....  I REALLY need to get some time into it, I am pretty excited to see it.  I LOVE twitch games, for shooters to me, they are the most fun, I wasn't into the military shooters to begin with, but there has been SOOOO many the last 8 years I got pretty sick of them.  Makes me THAT much happier to see a real twitch shooter again.

OOOOOHHH YEAH, the 2-1 shot is nuts.  Honestly, I was never any good at those on anything above lowbie bots, but when it worked, it was golden.  Reminds me of getting a DUMNLUCK ULTRAKILL form the central building/sniper section on Hydro16 in 99, I fired that by mistake, I bumped the wheel and fired the shock rifle instead of a rocket, and apparently someone in there fired the ball at the same time, saw a big blue explosion and heard ULTRAKILL and I and laughed, as I heard friends cursing at me form the other side of the room  :)   ...sorry..... I loved old UT99 this game makes me excited and nostalgic all at the same time.

UT is cool, not much choice nowadays for this type of game.

Id rather see a true quake 2 successor for MP, but i doubt it will ever happen. Q4..... was not that game lol.

One thing I noticed is that there are no outside maps to speak of yet, a few that are borderline outside, but none list UT3 with the bridge map. That had to be my favorite capture the flag map.

Seeing that you can create your own maps with Unreal Engine 4, there won't be a shortage of maps. People have released test maps already and they are in the list to choose from.

Edit: As a user who has studied AutoCAD in the past, I've downloaded the Unreal Engine not only for level developing but for architecture.

Yeah, heard that, might inspire me to learn enough autocad to make maps.  Hell if they did it accurately, I would LOVE a UT99 (with all 4 DLC's maps...Epic Boy and Ratchet) as a downloadable map pack, I would be ELATED if that happened!

Man I HAVE to get some game time this weekend!  Also, I'm gonna fire up UT99 again, found a DX10 mod for it that I really liked as well.

I had to mess with it a bit, and changing from Fermi to Kepler as well had to do some minor tweaking, but it works well and looks a lot better.

If you do have any real problems, form my experience, email the dev, he is quick to answer and VERY helpful.

You can also DX10 up a few other games form that era too.  It's not perfect but it was a project of passion for a guy, so im happy either way.

The Unreal Engine 4 has some very intuitive tutorials, so I'd skip learning AutoCAD altogether.  It's all in-program, no separate help file tutorials which maintains the learning flow.  The real time quality is fantastic.

REALLY?!  That makes me HAPPY, man, now I need even more to get on it and play with that as well.  Im sure I won't need to create any version of Facing Worlds... but for DM/TDM Liandri and the 3 towers in Low-G would be awesome, I always REALLY loved the Liandri map.
Makes me wonder if there is an import feature, find some way of dropping previous version UT games map files right in would be awesome.  I know that is a pipedream though, but I will definitely look into the tools as soon as I have time.

I'm going to have to try this out soon, thanks for sharing!
I wasn't even aware that something like this existed... :)

Not a problem.  I found out about it a couple years ago when gog.com released the UT franchise, they fixed some oddball stability bugs in UT99, I was helping someone in the forums and I saw a huge thread about it.  Honestly, it doesn't bring it up to even 2008 Crysis level or anything, but it is definitely better.
Have you ever used Doomsday engine for Doom/Heretic/Hexen?  If so, this does for Unreal and UT what Doomsday did for Hexen.  Color depth is noticeably better, textures are smoother, light sources are vastly improved.  But in the end, it is still a 16 year old game with a 3rd party mod to clean it up.  I really like it though.
