Hi just a quick question, basically im thinking of using my old 670 as a dedicated physx card, does it matter which pcie slot i put it in, caus obviously 3 would be better for the airflow of my 980??

You can give it a try. As long as it is a x16 lane ( doesn't matter if it is wired x8 or x16) it will be fine. It may not provide much overhead, but give it a try if you already have the 670 lying around.

I have a Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt mobo, as far as i can see i think they are all x16 slots, it only really specifies in the manual for the first slot ??, i know the 980 can handle almost anything at the mo but thought it would perform even better with my 670 taking the stress of the physx off of games like far cry 4 and such :)

Install in the "middle" blue lane.. All of the blue lanes are x16 length, and will work. The bottom lane will only be wired for x4, so the middle one and top will be your two best lanes.

The top is wired x16, the middle x8 and the bottom x4.

If i install the 670 to the second slot will it reduce the first slot to x8 the same as the second and will that impact performance ??

Not in reality. It will maybe have a minimal impact with overall performance of 1-2 frames. The big question will be about the physical based games and increase of performance overall.

You should make sure to test the single card first, then install the 670 and test it out and see if there is a major increase.
