Hello, so I updated my BIOS to v2.13. However, thinking about the next update, I was on the Save&Exit tab but saw no option to choose a BIOS file. I thought v2.12 did that but I am not sure, because I upgraded from v2.10. I am reading the BIOS Release Note and it said -
BIOS Installation

  • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
  • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
  • From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
  • Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

Am I not reading this right?

    I know that the X99 Motherboards have this but my X79 Dark and X79 Classified Motherboards do not.

    On the X79 you need to create a UBS Flash Boot, How did you update to 2.13?

    Looking on my X79 Dark now. This is not a process that the X79 Can do.
    I do have select Bios file on the X99 though.

    Make sure your do this BEFORE you update the Bios. You can also Press and Hold the small Red Button to clear the CMOS as well, this is what I do and then plug in the USB Flash and Boot up and run the command update.
    First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
    This is the only way I know. But this is from a Boot USB Flash Drive.
    USB Flash/DOS Drive Installation
    • Create a bootable disk.
    • Extract the above .zip file to your bootable disk.
    • From a DOS prompt, run DOS_Update.bat
    • Press Y in to start the flash process
    • DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
    • After the flashing is finished, shut the system down completely. Then power on again.
    After flashing verify that the correct flash was applied by checking the version number on the lower right corner of the BIOS screen.

    How to Create a Boot USB Flash Drive, thank you Lvcoyote

    I use this below settings in my CONFIG.SYS file.

    device=HIMEM.SYS /testmem:off
    dos=high,umb
    files=64
    buffers=32
    stacks=9,256

    And change the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to what is below or delete it.
    @echo off

    When done turn off your computer for 2 or 3 minutes, a restart is not the same.

    +1.

    Flashing a different bios in Windows works very well and is a quick & easy method.

    This also cause issues because users forget to power off and then they have issues.
    The other is they forget to Run As Admin and the update fails.
    But yes you can update while in Windows, You have to reset the Bios back to the Defaults before you update so you may have new hardware that Windows will need to install and so on.
    Resetting the Bios Back to the Defaults is one other item users forget to do as well.

    I have updated from within Windows and also DOS using a bootable USB drive. However, I was reading the description/release note of 2.13 and saw the section of where I can update within the BIOS (see my original post quote), so I thought it was an added functionality with 2.13. I guess not at this point.

    Yes, a type on EVGA's side

    This is in the X99 Bios.
    From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
    One my current Fold is complete I will take a snap shot of the Bios page that shows this.

    First up, both the systems in your signature say ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, so....

    For my EVGA X79 Dark, I did the windows install as specified:

    Windows Installation
    • Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
             150-SE-E789-KR - EVGA X79 Dark
             151-SE-E779-KR - EVGA X79 Classified
             151-SE-E777-KR - EVGA X79 FTW
             132-SE-E775-KR - EVGA X79 SLI
    • First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
    • Close all open programs.
    • Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and update.bat (right click, run as admin)
    • When prompted, press Y and [enter] to start the flash process
    • DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
    • After the flashing is finished, when prompted, hit any key to continue. The system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to set up.

    Oh yes, the main systems that I game and make a living are running RIVE. I am actually setting up a system to run Linux on the X79 Dark. I updated the latest BIOS to 2.13 using a DOS bootable USB drive but like bcavnaugh said, I think the instruction is a typo on EVGA part. I thought BIOS 2.13 enabled updating within the BIOS GUI but I couldn't find it, hence the question. My X79 is now running BIOS 2.13. I am actually having some issues with the setup so I am troubleshooting at the moment. It is never easy I guess...
