Save up so that you can buy whatever "that" is without going into debt. If it is worth owning, it is worth saving for.

You are just wasting your money if you are paying interest. Think of all the money you can save over your life if you avoid debt.

I recently got out of credit card debt too, and have that same problem!

You need to charge up a few GTX Titan X GPUs, that will put you all back in credit card debt.

I have a credit card but I only use it when necessary and pay the balance off within 30 days. I also have one debit card and that's it. The only debt I have is my home which I just bought back in October.

Best idea...hard for me to do...but so far, escaping the debt issue .. btw, the debt I'm thinking of incurring has a 12 month 0% APR on purchases over 500 bucks...(Newegg)...so if I paid it off in a year..no interest. that's why it's tempting...regular credit cards? Nope...not wanting to pay 9.9% to 17% interest.

No bank will let me go into debt, don't have enough credit to get credit to go into debt to get out of debt to get credit to.... Still, don't fall into the credit hole of losing money if you can avoid it, limit debt to something like a morgage and car payment, the credit card stuff can normally wait.

Wow your just like the typical American Debt Slave if you go back into debt based on your temptations. You should not be taking going into lightly either. Today the typical U.S. household that has at least one credit card has approximately $15,950 in credit card debt. The average auto loan at signing is approximately $27,000, and many of them stretch on for six or seven years. Now when you add up all mortgage debt, all credit card debt and all student loan debt, the average American household is carrying a grand total of 203,163 dollars of debt. Overall, American households are more than 11 trillion dollars in debt at this point. Most Americans spend their lives working for others, paying off debts to others and performing tasks that others tell them that they “must” do. These days, we don’t like to think of ourselves as “servants” or “slaves”, but that is what the vast majority of us are. It is just that the mechanisms of our enslavement have become much more sophisticated over time. It has been said that the borrower is the servant of the lender. And even though most Americans don’t realize this, over the course of our lifetimes the amount of money that we will repay on our debts is far greater than the amount that we originally borrowed. So we work our fingers to the bone to pay off these debts, and the vast majority of us are not even working for ourselves. So with all that said let me ask you this brother, do you really want to go back into debt now based on irresponsible illogical temptations?

Stay out of debt as much as possible. Try to keep debts limited to your car and home. Whenever possible make your mortgage payments on time with an extra 5 to 10 bucks on top of the monthly payment.

Rather than suggesting something for you to buy I'll go with a credit line that may be more suited to what sounds like your spending habits. I signed up for Credit via PayPal somewhat recently and I have to say I am quite happy with it, why, because they give you 6 months to pay your balance if it's a purchase over 100 dollars. So long as you pay it off before you have reached the 6 month mark, there is absolutely no interest. Excellent idea in my opinion, but just make sure you keep a good handle on it and be sure to pay it off. Good luck.

I bet that PayPal system builds your credit up very slowly compared to a "normal" credit cards since you have that LONG time span to pay before a penalty of interest. See here is the thing from what I experienced, people assume like they have to spend A LOT of money on their credit card to build up a bunch of credit as well as always paying your bills on the actual due date. Well that simply is not true. See for me I have 4 credit cards right. Each have a spending limit of at least $1,000 with one credit card that has a MAX spending limit of $10k(the higher your spending limit the more "trustworthy" you are to your credit lender). But what I do is I usually have to use each one of those credit cards once or twice a year in order for them to stay active. Now with my purchases on those cards I usually just spend it on something simple like fill my gas tank up with about $40 with on a card. With another card I do the same thing some other month but it does not have to be specifically on gas but just a reasonable purchase like spending $85 on groceries or something. Now $40 is nothing and it should be REALLY easy to pay it before your 30 day payment is required before you have to pay interest. The main thing is I dont do ridiculously high expensive purchase in order to build my credit up and I pay on a consistent timely manner in FULL BEFORE the payment bill is due. A good thing to know are theses. Credit card lenders look at these main things in order to build up your credit score as well as determining your credit limit for each card. - Credit card utilization rate: This is the overall percentage of credit limits you're using (calculate by dividing your total credit card balances by your total credit card limits). Typically, the lower this percentage, the higher your credit score.
- On-time payment history: This shows how often you've made your bill payments on time. The closer this number is to 100 percent, the higher your credit score.
- Age of credit history: This shows how long you've been building credit. In most scoring models, it takes into account both open and closed accounts. The longer your credit history, the more easily lenders can assess your creditworthiness.
- Total number of accounts: This is the number of credit accounts you have on your credit report, including credit cards, mortgages, auto loans, student loans and personal loans.
- Number of hard credit inquiries: Hard inquiries are initiated on your credit report every time you apply for credit. They typically fall off your report after two years. Too many recent hard credit inquiries can signify that you're desperate for credit.
- Number of derogatory marks: Derogatory marks include accounts in collections, bankruptcies, civil judgments and tax liens. As one derogatory mark can significantly decrease your credit score, it's best to avoid them.

My car and two houses are paid off. I come from a poor family and have no inheritance, winnings, or additional source of income. The key to being debt free is working hard, working smart, and saving up your money. You can always afford more if you avoid paying interest. When you do need to get a loan, always tighten your belt, buy nothing additional, and pay off the loan as fast as possible. Edit: I don't own a credit card and don't do any of the other credit tricks. Yet, my credit score was over 820 last I was told.

Well I dont care if its rude or not. Its the cold hard truth. You know what they say "the truth hurts when you dont want to hear what you want." I rather tell our brother the truth than to sugar coat it by letting him suffer again into debt. I rather see him enjoy being a free man again without any of these unnecessary financial bondage's.

It's funny how this thread has turned into a discussion regarding credit, silly EVGA community. Not bragging just saying matter of factly that I have very high spending limits over my 2 credit cards and my line of credit with PayPal. I normally try to keep each under 1k per bill cycle. Building your credit is absolutely critical if you wanna buy anything that requires any type of financing. I began building up credit when I was 18 and I would suggest anyone to do the same, just manage yourself thats all.

$5 to $10 bucks a month? What will that do reduce a 360 month mortgage to 359? lol To the OP, your thinking smarter. Newegg 12 month no interest. You really want that $600 card? Fine, but pay it off in 3-4 months. You got what you wanted tomorrow, and paid it off fast without losing any money. You will pat yourself on the back and make a habit of it. Don't take on more than one item at a time, meaning don't put $600 on Newegg, $1200 on Best buy, $500 on Visa etc, asking for trouble, no interest or not One purchase at a time.

I'm still resisting..no game I play really needs the update..but I WANT to (My friend was afraid to post that his 970 was stuttering so I did..no idea why it's doing that)....but don't really need it. as for paying more on the principle..over 15 to 20 years, I think it pays off even if you do it in small amounts, since none of the extra moneys goes to interest only to principle, but I'd rather spend an extra 50 a month on the payments..makes it go faster.
