So it's nVidia that will attempt to 'cast' PC gaming away from a traditional PC by guaranteeing a 1080p60 through a service model like Netflix-- in the end, it proves that a gamer just wants to play games, not tinker with hardware.
I'm sure they'll still make hardware, it will get gradually more expensive with time to pay for GRID until enough people make the switch, by then 4K60 or 4K120 will be streamed. nVidia wins against Wintel.

Actually that would have been the Magnavox Odyssey all the way back in 1972. Atari became super popular in the 70's and crashed. Nintendo brought gaming back. Nvidia will create a cloud service with marginal success just like their Shield device.

Can we all just agree the Odyssey was the first console, Atari first succesful but crashed the market, and Nintendo first modern successful console that brought back gaming. Depending on who you ask will get you different answers.

If that's the case, you have to give credit to Segas Master System too then, being it released in 85' with Nintendos NES everywhere but Japan where it released a little earlier and had a different name, but I don't remember what they called it there. As far as this new "console" by Nvidia im pretty sure its going to flop. A few people will buy it maybe but the gaming general public are just too clueless to utilize something like this when theres a XBONE, PS4 and a Nintendo. Nvidias plan to go into a subscription model for the grid service isn't going to help there cause either. Imo, this is just a distraction to keep people occupied since theyre pretty much rubbing up against the wall of what silicon can do with current fab tech. They need a new fab/arch/plan to keep releasing gpu's that are a decent enough upgrade to keep people spending money. So if this distraction catches on and they make money they win, if not, they've bought themselves the time they needed maybe to get over the "new idea" hump and they win.
