Just looking for a little feedback... I RMA'd my MSI GTX 970 Gaming due to the "100% fan problem" a lot of those cards were having. Me being inpatient, kind of kicking myself for not going with an EVGA card to begin with (and not having a lot of faith in the MSI RMA process) - I went ahead and bought an 970 SSC. The card is great. No coil whine or any other issues that I've been hearing. Surprisingly, MSI has delivered - the card is being shipped and will arrive this week. My question is: Now that I'm the proud owner of 2 off-brand GTX 970s, should I (or can I) SLI them without any issue? My power supply is a 750W Seasonic. Thanks!

EVGATech_JoseR It depends on which version of the 970 you have from MSI. Here is an FAQ on which 970s are compatible/incompatible with one another. http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=59534
The important thing in the SLI is the memory bandwidth and other memory things because the cards will be required to both process the memory simultaneously, but like if one card is overclocked it shouldn't really matter because like with RAM they should just clock themselves to be compatible and your overclocked card will just downclock to the other card. (If you do it, you may need to restart your computer a few times before your motherboard excepts it). Your BIOS and cards will figure it out and work together. Even it didn't work out, I don't think it would damage the cards, it would just make them unstable and not perform properly. However, I would wait until someone more experienced repeats what I said though if you shared what models they were.

It can really depend, sometimes they play well together and others they don't, it can also be BIOS related as well. In general mixing brands as long as it isn't a specialty PCB **SHOULD** work, but no guarantee from either end. I try to avoid mixing cards when I can.

Thanks for the feedback all. I should report back after giving it a shot SLI'ing these cards. I just hope my power supply can handle the load. Cheers!

A bit of follow up for posterity... So an EVGA GTX 970 SSC and an MSI GTX 970 Gaming will work in SLI, albeit with issues. To my surprise, MSI sent me an entirely new card, so kudos to MSI for a great RMA experience. I deleted my drivers, put both cards in to my rig, connected power and SLI bridge and fired her back up. The OS detected both cards, and I was able to select SLI. Strangely though, both cards seemed to be operating in 'high power state," with both card temps hovering around 55ish at idle. I didn't trouble shoot or go much beyond that - but Nvidia drivers, Nvidia Experience app, and the OS presented no problems when configuring the different cards in SLI. I'm using the MSI card for the moment, only because it is the cooler and quieter card of the two.

I have the GTX 970 FTW and the MSI 100ME 970 and I cant get them to run sli. Please help!! Windows is showing both cards detected, nvidia is showing both cards. I uninstalled the drivers when I installed the msi card last night and did a clean install of the drivers straight from EVGA. I've used two different SLI bridges and still cant activate sli. Are these cards not compatible?? What are the chances that both SLI bridges that I literally just opened are both DOA. Any help is greatly appreciated

It's my understanding that there's software that can bypass the restriction that limits some cards to SLI. I wouldn't reccomend it, but it could be your only option.

Well my friend has a evga 970 sc or ssc card. If those are compatible and hes down to trade that might be my first option. Has it been confirm that all evga GTX 970 from the sc-ftw are compatible with each other? Or will i still run into problems with them being different tiers and my only option would be to get another 970 ftw? Sorry I just built my first computer in december so im very new to this. Also thanks for the fast reply

EVGATech_JoseR It depends on which version of the 970 you have from MSI. Here is an FAQ on which 970s are compatible/incompatible with one another.
Hi, My EVGA SSC 970 4975-B1 does not appear in this link. I would like to know with which other EVGA's 970's will be compatible for 2way SLI. I am planning to get another FTW+ in order to mount the 2way SLI, but I really need a confirmation to know which other EVGA's 970's are compatible with my one. Thx.

Perhaps the ones questioning if MSI 970s and EVGA 970s are compatible should also go on the MSI forums and ask them as well what MSI 970s will SLI with EVGA 970s? There might be someone on there that would know as well. I don't like to mix cards, but I know some people like to have exceptions...
