I just loaded far cry 4 and everything is so dark. shadow areas can see nothing, mountains are all black. I have try'ed  changing settings up and down. default settings and some make it worse, none make it playable. Has any one fixed this? I have searched the web and most fixes are for SLI and I have a single card. I have try'ed a few settings that were suggested but none worked.

    Have you calibrated your display?
If not in 8.1 got to >Control Panel >Color Management >Advanced (Tab) click on Calibrate display or >Windows key >Control Panel >Display >Calibrate Color depending how you have your desktop configured.

Considering your situation I would 1st turn up contrast and brightness on your display before you begin to 80 to 90% for both.

When you complete the calibration routine don't forget to save the profile. You will be asked to do so at the end of the routine so follow it through to the end.
Every time after you restart your computer the profile will be employed without any intervention on your part.

Many of today's games use very dark scenes which require near perfect balance between contrast and brightness to see any detail in dark scenes. Of course this requires a good monitor for best results. Otherwise things tend to get washed/blended together out in very bright or very dark scenes.

It's always best to Calibrate display 1st before changing in game settings but those controls can provide additional tweaks to get the best experience. So you may want to default your in game settings as well before you calibrate. GL

Thank you for your suggestions, they did not do to much for my problem. Things got brighter and washed out. After working on this all morning I did get results by changing Ambient occlusion from SSBC to HBAD +, And Antialiasing from SMAA to MSAA that was after after I deleted the GFX Settings file and set everything to High. All is ok now so am in process of adjusting things for better graphics.

At least you know it's not the monitor which is a step many overlook.

I have wanted to give that game a whirl. I've had all the Fry Cry series except this version. I got the original just for the built in benchmark and really didn't care for the multiplayer which is most important to me. I heard/read several articles recently with bad things about the PC version of FC4 and somethings about limiting frame rates from Ubisoft and Uplay sucks like Origin so I kinda wrote them off as another console whore never to pay full price for another of their games. What are your thoughts of it?

They've basically ironed all the problems out, but it wasn't really optimized for PC on release. They basically skipped that step entirely, as they always seem to.

It is a ridiculously fun game, but it has its flaws and it does inevitably become repetetive and cumbersome, much like Far Cry 3 did much earlier in the campaign.

Sure, you have to deal with the typical ubisoft style of unlocking the "open world" and map. You can't play Ubilol games without it - it's limited much like all Ubilol games in exploration and such, but there's no denying how fun it is for the first 40 hours.

I would like for them to not release another one next year unless it's a Blood Dragon type spin-off. I would hate for this franchise to be compared to COD and AC's release cycles but I have a feeling it will happen.

I have gotten this game as good as it probably will get. checked my settings against tweaking guide and I match it all most 100% colors are perfect game play smooth. Have gotten in 10 hours so far and it play's like a updated FC3 only the terrain and cartell have changed. I have them all also and FC was still the best beautiful colors for it's day and great storyline. FC always was ahead on foliage until Crysis came along. I still get unusual shading from time to time like cloud cover or extra dark in caves but it passes in a few frames. Not like before though. I am happy with it now at least I did not have the problems I am seeing others had at the start. This was the most problem I have had with a game and I have been playing since pac man and wolfenstein 3D, probably due to everything being developed for consoles.
