There is no fix for 970 it is hardware level... i think it will be a tegra x1 phone or tablet. I want it to be a 980ti. I dream its a 970 fix, to end this controversy. Far fetch expectation is that it is the volta release.

Your pain makes me smile. DX12 with pooles vram might fix your issue. 7gb of full ddr4 and 1gb of overflow on 2 way sli.

I would like to see the GTX 980 Ti, supposedly they have been having production problems and the release date might get pushed back.  Another product that I've been reading about is the "TitanVR" headset that Nvidia is trying to reveal at GDC. The President, Jensen Huang said that the revealed is “more than 5 years in the making” and will “redefine the future of gaming.” So that makes me think it might be VR headset!

Nvidia bought Occulus from facebook and immediatly disabled AMD support LoL.

Seriously we have too many VR options for such a niche. It will kill the VR future by having low sales universally instead of having 1 or 2 companies with high sales. For once companies are believing the hype of a small percent of people and going to get burnt.

Though you know what, this woukd explain why Nvidia has stopped direct support of occulus. They were making their own VR. I dont like this concept already though.

I recently read an article speculating that the announcement might be for a Tegra X1 based set top game streaming box. Utilizing the GRID and GameStream features that are available on the Shield tablet/portable. I feel like this might an easy next logical step since the software is already there and especially considering the monetization of GRID streaming, this would be the perfect platform for people who are used to console gaming. I would really like to see a new video card announced but I feel like it would only be a minor announcement with all the hype of the next big thing.

If it's another video card, I fully expect it to be a Titan II and cost $1000+. But I doubt it has anything to do with desktop video cards.

    We can read the schedule:
    https://developer.nvidia.com/gdc-2015

Virtual reality is the next frontier of gaming, and NVIDIA is leading the way by introducing VR Direct—a set of hardware and software technologies designed to cut down graphics latency and accelerate stereo rendering performance. In this talk, we’ll show how developers can use NVIDIA GPUs and VR Direct to improve the gaming experience on the Oculus Rift and other VR headsets.

I don't remember when NVIDIA give same name with prefix only for completely other cheap.
GTX780 show up with 570 CUDA less and when NVIDIA launch same chip unlocked they didn't want to start with new series only give Ti name. If they want to insert new chip in series 900 it would be better to give 985 number, because GM200 have nothing with GM204.
And GTX980 is completely unlocked graphic card.

oh they could release a firmware update for those who dont like how it works to simply disable the memory controller, that is controlled via firmware

And make it 3.5gb instead 4.0gb?

seems like it would be odd to do that as the card seems to work as a 3.5 gb card til more VRam is needed, disabling it won't do anything other than make it run out of ram win >3.5 is needed. Unless there's something to be gained by running it in some sort of "3.5GB only" mode.

Er. but that's not what the topic is about per say, I'm guessing a new (or refreshed) platform, like the shield handheld 2 or a shield tablet 2, some form of VR related hardware, or well, plain old GPU related news is, in my opinion, at the bottom of the most likely options list ( not expecting a titan 2 or GTX 980 ti at all, but if there is... I'm in step up window :P)

    http://wccftech.com/nvidia-launching-gaming-platform-3rd-march-2015/

Wccftech thinks it is a android console. Not beleiving it as this supposed hidden code is not pictured, and the page they link for the "official page" goes to a wccftech.com link not a nvidia.com link. I think wccftech is making up news again. I expect this link to be taken down and hidden on march 3rd.
