is your site configurator correct when it says it uses the same block for both the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 (04G-P4-2975 / 04G-P4-3975).  I thought these had different size pcb's and also the mounting points are different.  I know that the backplates are not compatible from evga.

it says it is a visual confirmation

From the info we received the block will fit both.  Maybe you will have to ask someone directly from EVGA to know the PCB differences

these are the dimensions for the new ssc+ and ftw+
    Height: 4.376in - 111.15mm
    Length: 10.1in - 256.5mm

the older sc, ssc, ftw dimensions are:
    Height: 4.376in - 111.15mm
    Length: 9.5in - 241.3mm

so they are just 15mm longer.  Is there anyplace that shows some kind of installation instructions or something that shows mounting points.  maybe they are the same except for the screw holes at the far end of the card.  do you know where the mounting points are.  if not I will do some further investigation.

I have owned both the original sc and the new ssc+ and I know the screw holes do not match up for the whole pcb, at least as far as the backplate goes.

thanks for having a great presence on this forum

This is the instruction sheet for the block.  It will show you which screw holes we use to secure the block.

Please post back when someone tries a FTW waterblock on the FTW+.  I am definitely interested in waterblocks for my FTW+, but don't want to order one that won't fit.

I do not think they will fit.  since you are using the mounting points at the four corners of the card I do not see any way that they can match up considering the ftw+/ssc+ is 15mm longer.

these numbers are pulled right from the evga product specs:

these are the dimensions for the new ssc+ and ftw+
    Height: 4.376in - 111.15mm
    Length: 10.1in - 256.5mm

the older sc, ssc, ftw dimensions are:
    Height: 4.376in - 111.15mm
    Length: 9.5in - 241.3mm

for quick reference to the spec sheets on evga:

    ftw+
    http://www.evga.com/Produ...aspx?pn=04G-P4-3978-KR

    ftw
    http://www.evga.com/Produ...aspx?pn=04G-P4-2978-KR

    edit:

I opened up the rig and it seems like all of the mounting points are there but I do not think that last to at the end will match up.  It just does not seem possible with the additional length of the card.

I hope this helps and maybe evga jacob can chime in.  I just do not want people to order a product that will not fit.  this gtx970 launch has its quirks so it is nice to be able to verify.

I would just like to point out something, that I'm pretty sure will make alot including myself pretty mad. I am 100% sure that the block will not fit on the new 04G-P4-3975 970 SSC and the 04G-P4-3978 FTW+, but the length of the cards is not the only reason the block will not fit.

    1) The PCB on the SSC and FTW+ are longer and the back screw holes on them are almost to the end of the PCB which is longer the the original EVGA 970's.

    2) If you take a look at the two pics below ( from one of Jays2cent Youtube video's ), you will notice the capacitors that I have circled for the 04G-P4-3975 970 SSC version.

Now here is a pics of the original FTW that you guys put on your FB page

Notice the difference in the cards and in the cutouts on the EK ACX block? Yep, not cutout on the block for the lower capacitor on the 04G-P4-3975 970 SSC and the 04G-P4-3978 FTW+ cards

    3) I also would like to point out that the Pic you have used on your own website for both the 04G-P4-3975 970 SSC and the 04G-P4-3978 FTW+ is not even the real pic of those two cards.

The pic EK used of the card does not even have a 6 pin and a 8 pin, just two 6 pins.

well lets not get upset until we know whether or not ek will make a new block for the new cards.  I just want to keep this post civil and productive.

remember that ek is not part of evga and they can only react to what evga produces.  there is no way really for ek to know that evga would be making three revisions of a card in the first 6 months of production.  I can understand the frustration but lets also wait and see if everything is fixed in the end first.  patience is a virtue and lets be happy that we have a community that may resolve this issue before to many people potentially pick up the wrong water block.

I am not even a water cooler I just like to help and recommend products to others and I did not want to start telling people about a waterblock that may not fit so I did a little investigation.  I am sure that ek is not huge company that can reliably investigate every waterblock they make and ensure that it will fit every card especially from a simple visual inspection and without an actual card from evga they cannot be expected to always know what will fit.  this is the truth of playing in niche markets.

now if evga would just send them dummy pcb's that would be cool but you know...

I agree and I do apologize, I didn't mean to rant to much but after reading it, I realized I did rant more then I expected to.

I'm more mad at the fact though that for the past two month, EK has said that the block would fit those two cards, the amount of people that probably bought the block expect it to fit because EK said it would.

    Hi everyone!

I have a bad news for some of you.  We previously had the 04G-P4-3975 970 SSC and the 04G-P4-3978 FTW+ as compatible GPU for the 970ACX Waterblock but with the detailed pictures of ericleeee30 we have to announce that those 2 GPU won't be compatible.

When we created the block, we weren't able to have detailed images of those new PCB from EVGA and our first visual information of them were from reviews of the card from JayzTwoCents.

I'm really extremely sorry about this situation.  We will update the CoolingConfigurator to remove those 2 models from the compatibility list.

    Thanks

I'm gonna try to just send these ****ing cards back.
I am so very disappointed that I spent a thousand bucks on watercooling parts, upgraded to two 970's to finally be able to watercool them and now I have to do it all over again.
still cannot incorporate these cards into my loop.

Re: two new Full-Cover water blocks for EVGA GTX 970 ACX (2.0) and GTX 980 Classified ser 2015/02/24 20:29:58 (permalink)
I really wish this third revision was the first.  it caused allot of hassle with step-ups and everything else.  I also wish evga would send one of every pcb to ek.  they could ask for them back when it was all said and done then give them away or something.  evga would become the gold standard of water cooling

secondly I think for blocks that maybe ek cannot financially justify making they should start a kickstarter for the cards that would be supported and if they get enough money then they make it if not the consumer would get there money back.

i do wonder why they are not making the waterblocks.  is it not enough man power or financial reasons.  just curious.

Sigh, I waited for this block for awhile now. I was happy with the gtx 970. First, the stupid thing about the 3.5gb then now the block I wanted doesn't fit. This card is the most cursed thing ever. Now, I have to hope the retailer I bought the block from cancels my order. Before shipping.

I bought the card thinking there was a block for it, like so many others. Since then I have seen a EK block fitted to a 3975 though, and the same block used for the 2975 by BitsPower will also work for the 3975 with some minor modding (you need to bend/remove an unused header on the PCB).
Although the 3975 is longer the relative position of components are the same and all but one mounting positions used by the EK block are identical. What is needed to make it work is either digging out the channels for the condensers and room for the DVI connector or simply cutting off the leftmost part of the block (the changes only affect the cosmetic top of the block, no active parts).
I've made a rough mockup of the regular and ACX 2.0+ PCBs with markers to see how things line up. Yellow circled holes are the EK mounting points and the blue line is where the differences are (everything to the left of the blue line. On the right the 'offending' header is marked,

Have you actually made this mod for the ek block? I would be interested to see the results since i was so stupid that i bought gpu without checking out that if there is ek block for this card.
And i would not want to use anything but ek blocks. i know there is some alphacool block, but i think it wont perform as good.

    Thanks.
