I've now had my GTX 750 for almost a full year (bought it late Feb).

It was also my first ever "proper" GPU, and as such I do not know much about how to maintain them.

Over the past six months, I have seen that temperatures under load have been steadily increasing. It used to be max of 65C at max load, but now it breaches the 80C mark.

I opened up my case and had a peek at my GPU. Sure enough, it is covered in tons of dust. The fans look bad. I used my fingers and a brush to take out most of it around the fan without removing the GPU. However, I feel that there is more dust inside.

Now, my question is, should I remove my GPU from the PC casing and then clean it up properly? If yes, how do I do this? For the life of me, I can't figure out how to take it out and I fear I will break the GPU. Once removed, do you reckon I should unscrew any part of the GPU (if possible)? How do you reckon I give it a proper clean-up?

PS: Which other part(s) of my PC do you reckon I should clean up as well? The RAM, CPU, motherboard etc...anything that needs being dusted properly?

PSS: I have noticed louder idle noise from my PC over the months as well. When I check my GPU temps and fan, temps show 39C and fan at 40. This was exactly the same when I got my GPU at launch. As such, should I suspect the louder noise is coming from some other component (CPU fan perhaps)?

Thanks!

Yes you should take the time to clean the whole PC. Cleanliness helps keep the temps low by allowing air to move freely through the PC. Using canned air I believe is recommended. I own a compressor and just turn the PSI down to 15-20 PSI and clean it that way. To high a pressure and you could damage something. And this method is not recommended. And if my knowledge is correct to reduce the amount of dust accumulation you want to have positive pressure in the case. Meaning more fans pulling air in then pulling air out. Can someone verify this?

I have no pressure system or canned airs. Any "conventional" methods instead? I know this won't achieve 100% cleanliness...but I'd be happy with 80-90% improvement.

I would also suggest getting filters for your air intakes.  Dust is the enemy of the computer.  Filters will not eliminate the need for cleaning, but will reduce the amount of dust build up.  You should still clean it about twice a year.  Once you get filters, clean them monthly.  Maintaining a PC takes effort.  If you want it to have a reasonably long life and run at reasonable temps, then this is a requirement to make that happen.  Might also want to get some contact cleaner, since the dust has built up it may be interfering with the contacts, either on the card or where the card is making contact with the motherboard through the PCI-e slot.  Most places that sell PC parts also sell canned air and contact cleaner.

Easiest route would be to get some canned airs. You could just remove the card and get a balloon then blow in it for a bit twist it then attach a basketball air filler needle and aim and repeat x25 lol. But honestly a air compressor is the choice for everyone it has many uses not just dusting. You can find a Pancake Air Compressor for like $60 shipped and avoid the headache by cleaning everything!

Oh so it is ok to use an air compressor. I thought it wasn't recommended because air compressors tend to create moisture. And moisture is bad for electrical components. I use one anyway but I didn't want to be responsible for him messing up his PC.

Personally, every few months I like to take the cards out of my system, and take a q-tip to the fan blades, then hit them with compressed air :) pretty easy cleaning, and your GPU will appreciate it!

Unfortunately, using compressed (canned) air is conventional for cleaning out dust.  Generally, you'll take the card out by removing your monitor cable, then remove the two screws that hold the card down on the inside of the case, near the back of the graphics card, and then you'll have to push or pull a tab near the front of the PCI-e slot that holds in the card.

Thanks for bringing that up I dust my pc every 2-3months and whatever moisture comes out was evaporated quickly its not like I was spraying mist. I have a larger air compressor which I drain every few weeks but he would be using a small portable pancake air compressor which can be drained easily after each use.

Yea its much easier with air but I had to use alcohol and q-tips to clean the heavy dust off the blades which the air compressor couldn't remove. But the q-tip thing is done like 1-2 times a year it really takes time for it to settle in.

Yeah, compressed air will take off the vast majority of dust, but for anything caked in, it will need some q-tips or something similar.  I've also used a slightly damp paper towel, if there's room to maneuver.

    With anti static brush.
And ACX cooler and fins with electric duster, Data Vac, compressed AIR or similar thing.
    But sometimes brush is best.
