That is a silly thing for anyone to buy (*swipes credit card..... *) why would anyone even need that much power (connects power cord directly into power pole).

Who would need that much power... *runs 4 gpu's* noone needs that *begins overclocking* hmm i need an upgrade... or 2nd psu. On a side note.... evga will we see a 2000 p2 soon?

And I thought I was crazy for getting the EVGA SuperNova 1600 T2. Might need to try this out. I am sure this will need its own power meter (calls power company to ask how this can happen, scheduling install). LOL. Maybe you could get a $1,000 a month bill just for this separate meter. Might be also able to run a small room of folding, crunching or mining rigs with this monster. I bet it can run 4 GPUs. Don't you mean four of the new 300W R9 300s, OC'd CPU, OC'd RAM and a hair dryer at the same time. I just hope the hair dryer cord is included.

hmmm Im going to need this for my quad R9 300 upgrade soon. If someone managed a 20% overclock, then each card would need 30A, four would need 120A for the graphics cards alone. That is 1440W just for graphics cards. A 50% overclock for CPU would be exponential, making is around 250W for the 8-core option. Since CPU + GPU is the majority of power usage, 1690W would be the peak PSU minimum requirement, 2000W would be recommended. I'll bet some will and have already daisy-chained two of their favorite power supplies. seta8967if the 380x is 300w design, I can only imagine the 390x tdp... 300+? 400? The Fiji-XT GPU is already flagship, so it seems that AMD rebranded '390X' into '380X', not sure why though. It would be nice if 380x retook the 280x price, but I'm guessing it will take 290x's price. Still, Hawaii-XT was a 275W card, Fiji-XT is getting 45% more stream processors and double the video memory bandwidth, yet only adding 25W. This isn't as good as Maxwell, but Pirates Islands will be AMD's Maxwell. Performance is increasing with a minimal power increase. If the rumors of using 295x2 style hybrid water/air cooling, it won't suffer from noise and temperature that Hawaii-XT endured.

No point in getting one. Since everything now days is getting more efficient so less power needed. I say the only time is need for some one to use is if your going to pull a Kingpin and try to break some records with extreme OCing. O yeah not to forget a person should get this if they want bragging rights. A 1200w is adequate for most 3 GPU users who are OCed. And its not like most users run their computers on their max OC 24/7 anyways.

It's known as a "970" plug.. Rated at 440 but runs at 360.

After a lot of years of industrial automation; I can tell you the rule of thumb = expected load should not exceed 80% - 85% of the power supplies output for maximum stability and longevity. At 2000W @ 120V = 16.67 Amps and will need to be on a special /separate circuit as it exceeds 15 Amps.
I always use a quality UPS to ensure clean power to my PC and prevent corruption of memory caused by micro power fluctuations; that exceed the power supplies ability to absorb.
That is going to have to be one super size UPS to have a power protected circuit that can support a 17 Amp load.

However most rooms in residential setting would not have this dedicated circuit and it would have to be added.
