Anyone else playing or played through Dragon Age Inquisition? The storyline isn't bad, but I feel like I'm playing on rails in small boxed areas. This is definitely no Skyrim, but is better than my previous experience of Dragon Age 2.

I have started into it a few hours - once you pass the initial starting introduction map ( which most definitely is small, winding rail-like area )  , then it opens up into a free roam wilderness and camp.

I actually stopped playing because it was so large & open - that I went, "whoa" this is getting to the point where it is really going to be involved to get into it and I'm just not ready for that at the moment. I have too many other things going on , to where I can't dedicate that much time into a sitting right now.

-So to answer you,  it gets more open

It's not meant to be like Skyrim.  Have you played Dragon Age: Origins, Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, or KOTOR?  Inquisition is more like those in layout - hub-based and still non-linear, opposed to being true open world like The Elder Scrolls.  However, many of Inquisition's maps are the size of an entire open world game (a smaller one though).  The size of all of its sandbox regions combined is far larger than that of Skyrim.  I suppose you can think of it as region locked open world.

I just finished my first playthrough at about 153 hours.  It is without a doubt the most ambitious single player game ever made, and the plot seems to branch out even more than Origins (which has the most dynamic plot I've ever experienced).  I can't wait to replay it as a totally different character, using a different world state and different characters/choices from the first two games.

I'm gonna try this once I'm done with the evil within. I've just been going down my list of "play and complete this game".

I have been waiting for the patches to come out to try playing it again. First day was not a great experience, so I decided to wait a bit. PC patch 3 is due soon if it's not out already, then I'll pick it up again. Seemed promising from the small bit I played to star.

My main issue is you can't just wander around like you can in Skyrim and experience the world in an organic manner. In Dragon Age Inquisition I'm zoning in and out and all this fast travel stuff between zones breaks immersion a lot for me. You can really feel the limitation of the game client with things like that. Sure, it's fun so far, but I feel like I'm playing just a real big linear themepark game that hints at sandbox play.

The problem comparing the two though is the scope of the world-building.  Skyrim takes place in a single region of the larger world Tamriel and for that reason can be open-world.  DAI though spans multiple (12? I think) zones across two countries and having a completely open world would minimize the scope of the world they're building.  Having zones across the continent with vastly different geography does a better job of conveying this massive world Thedas.

I haven't gotten to deep into it, although performance wise it's running great at 4K 60FPS. It does have some texture flickering once in awhile at that resolution, but nothing to make it unplayable. Started out as a human mage, we'll see how the gameplay and story compare.

Yep, so far that's the only real graphical issue I have with the game. It has some z-fighting going on. Overall it runs smooth as butter with R9 280X CrossFire.

Its a great game but I agree, the main story line is a little weak, I wish they would had taken the staff and resources diverted to the multiplayer and put them into the single player, awesome game none the less, but it would had been fully epic with all resources focused on the single player. Defiantly a must have game though.

I have played a little more. Game is still running smooth at 4K 60 FPS now when I'm able to roam wherever. I've just been running around doing side quests, I did run into a dragon when going up north more. The instant I saw the flying dragon I started running lol. 3 of my guys died quickly and I'm yelling RUUUNNNN. For my main guy I've just been digging into the fire tree and a little lightening. I don't know any good builds as I'd like to just play through on my own build, just loving the visuals and sounds at this point.
