I never got into any of the dead island series, but for some reason I was really interested in getting this game.  I've played it for a couple of hours, and so far it's pretty entertaining.  I definitely enjoy the parkour system, but the combat is pretty rough initially just because you have no abilities and only have crappy weapons.

What worried me today was reading all the reviews about how awful the game was performing (even from people with GTX 980's), but I haven't really noticed it.  I have everything maxed out except for view distance (I have it set at 60%) and the game is running at around 70 fps most of the time with a very rare dip into the low 50's.

I was just interested to hear if anyone else had any thoughts on the game play/performance issues.

I've been worried about the same since I'm running SLi old tech. I'm waiting until I can afford a top notch rig again, then by that time hopefully this game will be in the bargain bin.

Looks really cool though... and if you have a moment please continue with your review!

Yeah, I read most the issues occured for people once they left the training scenario and entered the open world.  In the apartment building I was getting around 100 FPS.  However, I'm reading a lot about people not being able to even get 30 FPS even with all the settings at low and a resolution of 1024x768 once they leave the apartment building.

The graphics guide on the GeForce site even mentions how this game is CPU intensive and showed the frame difference.  However, I haven't monitored my CPU usage during game play yet so I can't confirm or deny that.

I've played a few hours - been outside , unlocked several safe houses, ran from many hordes of zombies ( day & night ) and my performance is real good. ( on just 1x 780ti )

It looks really good , basically like an upgraded Dead Island (3) or something  but with way better player control, physics, graphics, UI ,story, voice overs, characters ..etc..  I am enjoying it, even though I have nothing but pipes to hit with & generally run away screaming like a little girl...

Yeah that's what I'm stuck doing right now.  The initial weapons are weak and degrade quickly, so if I'm lucky I can isolate a zombie and stomp it for about a minute until it finally dies.

Got the game 2 days ago, only played about 4 hours so far. Got out of the prologue stage and just started exploring. Loot is easy to get and its easy to craft stuff and keep them repaired. The game runs flawlessly 60FPS at 4k, I was surprised since usually games that have been coming out suck and need patches and what not. Beautiful game running at 4K and I can't to get some time off to play some more.

Had issues on first start-up with flickering from sunlight in SLI... don't know how it fixed itself, but it did. Also noticed the game always starts up with fullscreen disabled which kills my FPS. Am running it 4K maxed out with view distance at 50%. FPS is 42-60, but feels great thanks to G-Sync. I am crashing randomly though (.exe stopped working error). No stuttering with 3 GB VRAM surprisingly. Haven't gotten too far in yet, but it is entertaining. Played my first night mission and my god was my heart pounding in solo play in a dark room!

Hearing good things about the zombies in this game. That they are what zombies are supposed to be. Of course, I dont know what a proper zombie is or means. I love all zombies. Killer love.

Night runs are actually heart pounding ... Those things are freaky.  Especially when all I have is melee weapons and poor running speed on my side.

AGAIN, the same old bland voice. When will this end!!.

Anyway, fun hearing all the Arabic names. :D

Went on to search about it and... forget everything, fell on some absolutely dumb, post by a mongrol, Facebook page boycotting this game. UNBELIEVABLE!. These kind of people shouldn't have access to Internet.

Extremely disappointed. I feel bored playing this.

Even after adjusting FOV, I feel nauseous. Not good.

Performance is fine. Not sure why there are so many complaints everywhere. I have "Shadows" and "Foliage" at "Medium" and "Motion Blur" "OFF". Everything else is at high/max/on. View distance is at 4/12. NOT A SINGLE STUTTER!. Fluid gameplay all the way. Game does get stuck when you talk to someone or do something which triggers a scene.

Really boring game. I will finish it though.

I thought it was a really good game overall, but it does get way too easy at the end.  You go from the beginning of the game where killing even one zombie is challenging, to the end where you can just slaughter a whole horde of them no problem.

Overall, I'd say I had at least $60 worth of fun.

Finished it over the weekend ..... Solid 8.5 (maybe 9 )  from me.  Worth every penny to me.

Only thing I would complain about to take points away :
    1) low variety of guns ( rifle,pistol,shotgun )
    2) stupid way to end a very good game by using "Quick.Time.Event" button movement - ( QTE is NOwhere else in the game, WHY add it for the ending sequence !?!?! )
    3) no fast travel until much, much later in ( can't travel between all the unlocked SAFE houses )
    4) very confusing way to get between other maps/ areas later on

other than those little nags, I highly recommend it to anyone who really enjoys free-world Zombie killing
