Hi there,

I received my replacement 780gtx, but it doesn't work

I uninstalled my old 560 that I was using while waiting for the new card. Popped the 'new' 780 in and then it just freezes on the BIOS splash screen. Can't enter the BIOS or anything. I took it back out and triple checked no leads had become dislodged and tried again. Same thing.

Put the 560 back in and the PC booted into windows first time.

Do I need to register this card to start the RMA process all over again? Am I expected to pay for shipping again? Will I get compensated?

Thanks

Did you clear cmos after you removed the 560 and installed the 780? Did you try the card in another rig first to see if its the card or your setup? Whats the rest of the models/makes of your components?

No I didn't clear the cmos (I uninstalled the 560 drivers etc in safe mode)I've never had to clear the cmos before when changing a card, even switching between AMD/Nvidia.. I don't have another rig to check.

Specs - 3570k - Gigabyte z77-D3h - 8 gig of samsung green ram - 128 & 256 crucial m4 SSD's & old 360gb HDD - 700w OCZ PSU.

Edit: just spoke t0 the I.T bloke @ work - ~I can bring in tomorrow to check it in another machine. Let's see what happens :/

Edit 2: I could possibly be an idiot lol. I recall after the original 780 died I was having all sorts of bother, so took the CMOS battery out and started from new with a clean install. I think I may actually have to update the mobo bios again for the 780 to work. Will try when I get home!

Ok, np..... another issue your probably having is uninstalling the Nvidia drivers in safe mode too. That creates all kinds of havoc in your system and will give you the result your seeing. you need to use Ccleaner to cleanup and repair reg entrys too after the driver uninstall, NOT in safe mode. Make sure you have any monitoring/overclocking software turned off along with antivirus/antimalware etc... too.  Heres a thread on how to do that if you need pointers: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1776353#1776353
