I'm on newegg looking at all these hdmi cables to buy so I can link my graphics card up to my tv.  I have a gtx 980 which is forcing me to now get a hdmi cable.  I used to use an hdmi to dvi cable with older nvidia graphics cards to my tv.

I've never bought an hdmi to hdmi cable before, is there anything I should be aware of?

Also 2 questions:

1) After looking through a bunch of different kinds I can see some of them are hdmi 2.0?  Is it important to have an hdmi 2.0 cable?  A lot of them don't state 2.0 or not.

2) Can length effect the quality?

Depends on which tv you have mostly.
length really won't effect it and hdmi 2.0 is still a little bugged in working with 4K.

I have a samsung 42 plasma, I bought it back in 2008 or 2009.  How is hdmi 2.0 buggy with 4k displays?

Oh well it was having issues on other brands.
for samsung, you would need to rename your hdmi input to pc if it doesn't work at first.
and as far as the hdmi 2.0 cable.. I believe you want something high speed like 18gbps

Might want to check your tv first if it was 2009 then might not be capable of 4k..
2.0 is mostly for 4k and Ultra HD, if your tv isn't capable of producing that then just a high speed hdmi will do.
but here is the latest and greatest in hdmi.

37 dollars for 6 ft is too much lol.  If it was 15-20 feet I would have considered it

I say it be hard not to buy the right hmdi cord for your needs. I would get the hdmi 2.0, just in case you get a new 4k/1440p/1080p 144hz tv, "future proof" as some might say. That 980 sure pumps out those pixels, I wouldn't let my tv be its bottleneck.

Have purchased many hdmi/ethernet...and a ton of other things for my home theater/pc from monoprice. Some people just have to have a name brand,me....I love generic drugs, food and all things that have power and signals running thru them. Have not had one bad egg in about fifty purchases. Please post back on how your cable set up works and how your screen refreshes/colors look etc.

Quit looking at Amazon or Newegg for cables. Monoprice is the only place worth cable shopping at. You'll get consistent quality and good pricing.

You got the high speed part of the cable correct. The only concern would be if the length of the cable might cause some dropouts, but that's not a good enough reason to worry about sending it back at this time. If you do lose signal over that distance, then you might want to take a look at Monoprice's hdmi cables with Redmere.

For the record, there's no such thing as a "HDMI 2.0 cable". There's only "Standard" and "High Speed", and variations of high speed, such as w/ ethernet. A basic High Speed HDMI cable is sufficient even for 4k.
