Weird you mention that it should be used exactly how it was designed to be used, lol.

Some assume it can be used on air and buy into the hype, spend like an extra $150 or so over the Classified. Bet 90% of the respondents in this topic are choosing to use it over air. That 20 extra mhz on air is really worth $150 more lol

But it doesn't matter if they buy hype rather than buying what they actually need. There are plenty that will kill the stock pile just for the bragging rights, and then get upset when their card doesn't overclock through the sky because it NEEDS the cooling it was designed to get the ridiculous overclocks that come with extreme cooling.

I bought 2 780ti Classifieds because of the hype, and very quickly became addicted to overclocking them. I just can't find a way to acquire ln2 or dice here.

Some, they buy the card because higher number and bigger price mean they can definitely play CSGO better, or bf4 should get 400fps if they buy 4 of them. Just because they think that way doesn't change what the card is meant for.

What I would LOVE to. See EVGA do is a special pre-order for people that have extreme cooling equipment.. Phase change, dice or ln2 pots.. They get priority over anyone.. Why, because they will use the cards how they were designed.

The power consumption figures under water and high voltage should be more than under LN2 even though it's an insanely high clockrate and voltage.  At least that's my theory.

Lol, this helped make my decision.  I'm just barely getting into ocing and water cooling.  I think I'll skip these for a bit and crawl before I walk.

Agreed.  Otherwise you end up with Classifieds and K|NGP|Ns that go "today, I wasn't overclocked.... AGAIN."  The Classy and KPEs are made for phasechange and higher and I wouldn't mind seeing KPEs having an "option" picker where one could buy one from EVGA with either the air-cooler, the EKWB setup, or KP's Tec-9 LN2 Pots pre-installed for easy "plug and play" fun.  LN2 / DICE / Phasechangers should get first dibs, but also - if they tell EVGA what they're going to do with the card - a bit more "cherry picking" for cards that will have better "extreme OC" tendencies in them.  Likewise, someone like me who runs the GPU at stock... all I want is for it to run as advertised.  If it does that, I'm a happy guy.

I think lot of people, gamers who no money to afford LN2 or Dice have rights to choose cards with highest clock.
If they are in inferior position why they to choose EVGA reference board over Galaxy with same clock as Classified example, or why to import EVGA from Europe where Asia and Europe is full of ASUS and MSI with same PCB or better custom for less money than EVGA reference. Than they not deserve real EVGA because don't want or don't have money to drain last percent from card and replace burned hardware with new. They will not meet real EVGA with Superclocked or similar. Don't forget one thing Classified and K|NGP|N Classified GTX780Ti are not cards with biggest number of phases and highest clock among GTX780Ti, both of them. Why someone should to choose reference PCB instead of that, because love with technical support, to replace highest clock and score and fps for good technical support. OK than EVGA for overclockers, LN2, Dice, for gamers who like high clock Galaxy.

And me too, but some group of people try to explain that such cards are not for us, and like we not deserve them.
MSI and ASUS will gladly help them to spread such news and write on their models for Gamers, Gaming, etc...
because who made strictly for LN2 and overclockers he will bankrupt. That's minority of minority in minority.
But from day 1 when EVGA show K|NGP|N people worldwide try to explain that gamers should forget on such card and buy something else.
Like our target is not highest clock saved in BIOS.

Vlada, you are the most back and forth person on this forum. Yes, you should have the prestige of getting whatever you want. I never said you shouldn't.

I literally said that people with extreme cooling should get priority for pre-order.

right, and also, EVGA's cards work nicely in smaller cases.  Mine stays in low 60s even when gaming in 4K.

FTW has exactly what you are looking for without the extreme cooling implementations. It isn't about clock speed or warranty, it's about prestige for air cooling and water. I love my cards for sure, but I have done everything I can to get them as cold as possible while watercooling, so that I can bench them.

Yup, but when I bought mine the 780 Ti classy was cheaper than a normal 780 Ti.  So... if i can get 1020 for less than 876, why not.

We aren't talking about 780ti Classified K|ngp|n pre-orders... Are we? Because last I looked, this was very specifically about the 980 K|ngp|n and pre-orders, which is the first time EVGA is doing this with these cards.

Back to what I was saying about those wanting a high clock and warranty with the 980, the FTW is almost $150 cheaper, so saying you only want it for a higher base clock is saying you want to pay $150 extra, just for the regular Classified, for an extra 12mhz base clock. If you aren't using the hardware for overclocking at all, that is an extremely silly thing to do.

If you are on water, phase change, dice or ln2, then it at least makes a little more sense, and if you are overclocking aggressively, this is where one should be buying. Just saying you got. It for the clock speeds is saying you wanted to wave your epeen and wallet around. I have no issue with people that do that at all.. I would just like to see the people that are going to run this card as intended get priority.

Anyone that buys and registers a prosli bridge can essentially get priority over people that want to run this thing to its limit. It is better than just anyone getting priority, but seriously.

It for the clock speeds is saying you wanted to wave your epeen and wallet around.

on that token, you're 100% correct.  I was admitting the odd circumstance for my GPU.  but yes, in general I do agree the FTW is the sweetspot for "set it and forget it".

OK I will not buy this card.
I will leave for you.
I will search than other brand with high clock where no priority and class.
But not repeat and remind customers "who are not priority" for two months when half of
card stay on stock and when people with extreme cooling are satisfied. Than and we are good, when minority is satisfied.
I know I will buy Rampage 5 Extreme and ASUS ROG is better design than other cards in EVGA store.
It's good because I realize some thing in period when have time to redesign own PC.
Conclusions is next, for only true EVGA priority are not gamers, we are for reference and FTW. OK.

And better because they decide to launch card on this way with pre-order because what many people find in GTX780Ti K|NGP|N is shame and for Vince and for EVGA to install reference BIOS in such cards, and bunch of people with cards unstable and for gaming, not for overclocking, and if they are not capable to make more than it's better like this, pre-order for overclockers and other will find other cards with similar clock.
Galaxy have and now one model with higher clock than 980 Classified.

Like I specifically said earlier, you are the most back and forth person in this forum. You literally act like a child over some subjects, non stop going back on your own words.

So, say EVGA gives extreme overclocking 1 week to pre-order ahead of everyone else, then the next week anyone that has an EVGA product registered, and week 3 is open to everyone. What did you lose? Nothing. They ship all the cards they have as they are available. All the extreme guys get is ordering priority. Not one place does it say 2 month priority, so please stop acting like a child.

The bios on the k|ngp|n Ti Classified was not an issue. The Ti Classified non K|ngp|n was, and Vince provided another bios within a few days of release, so what are you even talking about?

If you so badly want to go to Galax, do so. You keep saying you are going to switch, over and over.

So what, I'm sensitive, that's me.
And I hate when someone constantly repeat, I mean constantly that's not for gamers, that's not for gaming,
they are not priority, that's not design for them.
OK, gamers are not main target for only true EVGA, gamers should buy reference card because 100MHz higher clock and because good technical support or eventually FTW but price is same as ASUS Matrix Platinum and more. Gamers are not priority for Classified, Europe is not priority for nothing, better samples are in USA, Europe get much later, price in euro is higher than in dollars, OK, what is next.
I forgot many people get unstable cards and for gaming GTX780Ti K|NGP|N I read for at least 10-20 cases, how many people have same problem when they launch most expensive card on the world with reference BIOS, as poor MSI when screw up with Lightning and launch LE version with smaller clock.
I didn't thought on BIOS problem, this was poor binning or mistakes during testing.
Some people save money months only to pay better cards with higher clock where no worse chip and someone non stop to repeat them that's not design for them is not fair.

Re: GTX 980 Kingpin Exclusive Preorder 2015/01/27 03:59:53 (permalink)
Anyone can buy anything they want. A gamer buying a Titan Z is a gamer that doesn't care about performance. A gamer buying a Classified or K|ngp|n card is usually a gamer that isn't looking at overclocking. They don't know what they are buying, they just see big numbers and think, "heck yes, that is so cool I must have it."

How many times did I have to repeat myself when a gamer came in saying that their card wasn't performing in video games the way they wanted, or that their card got hot so it would throttle when they added a ton of voltage and a stupid overclock? I know I had at least 10-20 cases of explaining that the k|ngp|n was unit for extreme cooling.. Many cried saying that wasn't advertised, and when showing them the release page where it stated that it was, they cried because they wasted a ton of extra money for nothing.

That is the gamers fault for not being informed, not the fault of someone that researched and knew exactly what they were buying.

Getting emotional over someone repeating something on a forum is silly. It has to be repeated, because there are going to be at least 200 people that buy this card because, and I quote, "big numbers and leds make it a better card" with no freaking clue why they spent nearly $800+... That isn't EVGA or any other users fault, but they will definitely whine and try to get pity.

When you can buy a reference board card that is preoverclocked to nearly the same exact level and performs on par while using air, why WASTE the extra $300.

The FTW is made targeting gamers. The Classified and K|ngp|n is made targeting extreme overclocking. Any gamer can buy a Classy or an FTW, but bigger numbers and leds will attract them to something they do not understand.

Being one of those that bought the Classy just for a guaranteed clock and a mild overclock on air, I completely agree. I don't have the time or patience to build a water loop. Those that water cool should absolutely have priority over us amateurs. On a side note, I should have gone with the FTW, much better fit for what my purpose is.

My opinion: who gives a **** if you want to run extreme overclocks or not.  Oh kewl you can overclock it to 9001 Mhz using a method that's completely worthless for 24/7 usage and is in no way representative of how a card will overclock under a real cooling solution (Bulldozer hitting 8 Ghz anyone?).   I say sell the cards to whoever wants to buy them in the order the order is received.

This hit me lot even if I know such things can't influence on me, but...
I thought first to leave forum completely but that I think Why, many people here are without EVGA hardware.
I'm gamer on first place, I saw many people think Classified and K|NGP|N Classified are not for gamers and we pay without reason, OK, maybe.
But without Classified and K|NGP|N Classified EVGA is not best option on market for gamers.

Depend from year but usually is inferior to at least 3-4 models with at least 50MHz higher clock. I didn't buy EVGA because technical support or step-up, even when GTX780Ti show up I didn't step-up on reference model because K|NGP|N Classified, why is that not for us.
For us is maybe MSI Gaming, GIGABYTE Windforce Gaming or I think best for us Republic of Gamers, that's for us who want to play games without someone to repeat them constantly we are not priority, we are not target, objective, mission or similar thing. I don't have money for many cards and than I build with best NVIDIA, but I see many, really lot of people not agree with that and think gamers should step a side. I think who is who, gamers of overclocker is irrelevant and both use card for different purpose and both have benefits from high clock, overclockers are minority, we gamers use cards longer and more hours we have benefits from fabric OC. But main purpose is try to someone avoid 50% of worse chips in IT industry, sometimes they are exactly in highest and most expensive EVGA class and sometimes they are weak and for full boost on fabric speed, not for dice or LN2.
I would like only on one moment to understand competition and that near cards with custom PCB, aluminium coolers, super alloy chokes, technical support around corner many many people really have no reason to look something else than Classified class and that such idea can seriously to hit on first place Europe, people who pay 50e only for shipping and 150-200e total more only because 100-150MHz higher clock and chip must to be perfect and must reach very high clock only to stay stable 3 years for gaming on fabric clock. That's not easy task and that's not just like that buy SC ACX OC and save profile. In 25% yes in 75% no way to stay stable.

Does EVGA "Cherry Pick" their GPUs from Nvidia for the "performance" models?  After all that is kind of how Intel does CPUs; test them, sort them, increase the price for the best of them.

Buying the KingPin 980 for it's outstanding efficiency, not for benching or LN2 competition.

I might run it stock or even undervolt the sweet bastard for my silent work rig.

Thank you EVGA and Mr. KingPin for making this card a reality, now bring it on.

EVGA does bin these. If they did like last time, they will later do an unannounced release of the 980 K|ngp|n Classified Reference Edition, with base clock speeds but everything else will be the same.

The asics have generally not been high, as the lower Asia is supposed to help with overclocking with extreme cooling measures. On the 780ti set, it was generally around 65-70 asic quality.

You point out the obvious, as these aren't necessarily built for every day use. So, your point is completely invalid about doing exactly what they are built for. K|ngp|n cooking doesn't normally run his card at stock settings except for testing to make sure the card works before he goes through bolting everything on. Once the card is fried, he replaces it.

If you want a daily driver, why spend money on stuff you aren't going to use, since 95% of people that won't use it will complain about its features later. I personally don't care who buys them, but if someone wants to wait a few weeks, they will get the card that has a full warranty and light use from another user for $100-200 off. Why would you NOT reap the benefit of an extreme overclocker purchasing another card, looking for a better one? The epeen grows and the user gets a heck of a discount.

I will be looking for the used cards that I can see how they function before I spend $800.

Heck, you want a 980 Classified K|ngp|n right now? Grab an empower board and a 980, buy the extra parts and install them yourself. It's cheaper and everything.

4gb. I doubt they bump vram until the next series is release, same as 780 6gb coming out a few months after all of the 780ti hype was complete.

Fingers crossed though.
