So upon searching for reviews on the best steering wheel to get for my PC, I've discovered that said reviews are few and far between. It also seems as though there are some rather staunch opinions on brand/model on the various forums, which leads to a lot of misinformation and fan boy fighting.

As such, I'm looking for someone to lay this all out for me in an easy to understand manner. I'm not set on price points yet, and I'm certainly not sure on the differences between differing products (gear drive versus belt drive force feedback for example)... so I'd really like to get an idea of what I should be lookign at. And pedals, what about those?

Bottom line is that I don't want an inferior product. I don't mind paying a premium (to a point, I'm sure there are insanely priced units out there for the elite of elite hobbyists and professionals) as long as there's good reason to spend the money over a cheaper alternative.

Any help would be appreciated!

Edit: while we're at it, how about flight sticks? I'm thinking of snagging one of those too.

Wheels: Logi G27, Fanatec has some interesting Porsche wheels, Thrustmasters 458 (?).

Flight stick: Thrustmasters Warthog (simple or hotas), Saitek x55, CH.

I'm by no means an expert (I think Brad is around here) or use any of these products but when ever I get a sudden urge to build a man cave I look at these. These seem to be more down to earth on money compared to full cockpits and such.

System: 7820X - MSI X299 Carbon AC - G.Skill 32Gb TridentZ 3200 - EVGA 1080 Ti - 500 Gb Samsung 970 EVO , 2Tb Crucial MX500, 2Tb, 3Tb, 4Tb Seagate - Seasonic 1000W Prime - Creative Sound Blaster Z - Windows 10 Pro 64 - Phanteks Enthoo Primo - Edifier S530D - Acer Predator XB271HU (1440p)

Watercooling loop: Heatkiller CPU - EK 1080 Ti - Swiftech MCP 655 with EK X-Top v2 - XSPC reservoir - Alphacool 480 x2

I grabbed a G27 on sale last part of 2014. I can say it seems to me very nicely made. I have seen a few guys get the G27/[or G25] and put a thrustmaster shifter [just for example] : http://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-Add-On-Gearbox-Shifter-playstation-4/dp/B00MAXOTB6  8 speeds is one advantage. And there are also mods for G27's like inverting the pedals /special springs for pedal , shifter mods, ect. And there are also higher end shifters/wheels available.
http://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T500RS-Racing-Wheel-Playstation-3/dp/tags-on-product/B004J6KRD6
I have seen several guys using and recommending the T500RS. Just depends on how much and how far you want to take it.

For me ,just getting into it the G27 is a good cost effective starting point. I am also going to try my skills at recreating this sim cockpit : http://forums.evga.com/My-Sim-Racing-Rig-m2077966.aspx

Racing: Fanatec for wheel and pedals. If Fanatec is outside your price range go Logitech G27.
Flight: Go Thrustmaster Warthog or CH Products Fighterstick/Combatstick if Warthog is out of your price range. Slaw Device for rudder pedals or Saitek Combat Pedals if that is outside your price range.
Seating: Obutto or if Obutto is outside your price range Volair Sim.

I'm no fan of Logitech or Saitek build quality on game controllers. I do use Saitek rudder pedals though. Saving up for Slaw Device F-16 pedals to be released.

I really appreciate the replies (and links!) guys! Thank all of you very much.

For racing go Fanatec. For flight go Thrustmaster Warthog. For seat setup go Obutto or Volair Sim. While some really like Logitech or Saitek hardware I wouldn't recommend it. CH Products for flight stick only if Warthog is outside your budget.

Hey Brad, I was hoping you'd chime in on this thread.

Well, I just pulled the trigger (a few hours ago) on a Saitek X-55 Rhino HOTAS. It seems to be pretty well reviewed by blogs/zines as well as by random individuals in forums and in review comments. Granted its not of the (material) build quality as the Warthog, but apparently its not "cheap" feeling either. I figured @ the $165 I snagged it for, its a bargain even if its anywhere near the TM Warthog... then again Im not a huge flight-sim guy either. I like to dogfight in BF4,  and take to the skies (rather than tanks) in War Thunder... but TBH I'm primarily getting it to play Elite Dangerous

I suppose if all else fails, its an easy return, however I have a feeling it will me more than adequate for my needs at this time.

As for the wheel/pedals what say you as far as specific recommendations? Again, Im not looking to perfectly replicate a car cockpit, however I want something that is going to be up to the task of the many hours I will undoubtedly be putting in on Project Cars. That said, I don't want to break the bank nor do I want a noticeably inferior product in terms of function. I was somewhat leaning towards a Thrustmaster T300 and a set of ClubSport V2 pedals from Fanatec.

I'm not a fan of the X-55. It feels like plastic to me. I'm used to the real cockpits. It'll still do what is needed for ED though.

I have the Clubsport V1 pedals from Fanatec. I really like the them. I really like my Fanatec PWTS wheel, but they no longer manufacture them.

To that end, do you feel that the load cell pedals are worth the extra coin?

WOW! Got that Saitek HOTAS delivered TODAY at like 10AM. And I used the Newegg "supersaver" 4 to 6 business day free shipping. Less than 24 hours to my doorstep! Take THAT amazon prime! Hahahaha.

Let us know some of your impressions of it. I'll probably get it for Star Citizen when we're closer to a more polished version of it.
