Hey, I have been wondering since I picked up my 760 (EVGA GeForce GTX 760 4GB Dual FTW ACX) if I should step up to the 970 (EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ ACX 2.0+). Would it be worth the $150??

Jump is about...17% Difference in performance, if you want the best possible performance 970 would be it however at $150, real question is 17% worth $150 and all the "trouble" that the 970's are having with 4k & "3.5" Gb Vram.

Personally I moved from a 660 GTX Ti 2GB and couldn't have been happier that I did, I have no issues with my 970 however I dont play the games that everyone is raging over with the Ram issues so..

    17%?!?!? are you crazy? :)
At 1080p its like 40-50% maybe.

YES ITS WORTH EVERY DOLLAR. Around 40-50% performance different

The 40-50% increase chart that was post refers to a 2GB version of the 760. Seeing how I have the "top of the line" GTX760, the 40-50% improvement seems like an overstatement.

2gb or 4gb, doesnt matter. Still a 760. The 760 can only use 2.4gb ram because of its bus width

Jump is about...17% Difference in performance

Where is this 17% that you are getting??  The 970 is at least 75% more powerful than a 760.  I personally went from a single 670 FTW to a 970 FTW and got almost double the performance.

And the chart using the 2GB doesn't matter since extra VRAM does not make the card any faster.  The extra VRAM only helps when the game needs more.  If the game uses less than 2GB, then there will be no difference at all between the 2 and 4GB cards.  And that chart is showing that the 760 is actually 57% of the 970, not that there is a 43% increase from 760 to 970.  It's showing a decrease of 43% from going from a 970 to 760.  If you put it in the perspective of the 760 (making the 760 the 100%), then the 970 would show 175%.  Meaning that going from a 760 to a 970 will actually be at least a 75% increase.

I don't see the performance jump in the numbers. See below for the comparison. The only thing that is in the 40-70% range is the CUDA cores number, and I don't see that causing such a performance jump.

    Performance
    NVIDIA GTX 760
    1152 CUDA Cores
    1085 MHz Base Clock
    1150 MHz Boost Clock
    104.1GT/s Texture Fill Rate
    Memory
    4096 MB, 256 bit GDDR5
    6008 MHz (effective)
    192.2 GB/s Memory Bandwidth

    Performance
    NVIDIA GTX 970
    1664 CUDA Cores (+53%)
    1216 MHz Base Clock (+12%)
    1367 MHz Boost Clock (+18%)
    126GT/s Texture Fill Rate (+21%)
    Memory
    4096 MB, 256 bit GDDR5 (+0%)
    7010 MHz (effective) (+17%)
    224.3 GB/s Memory Bandwidth (+16%)

    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2015-vga-charts/17-Battlefield-4-2160p,3680.html
    Here a 970 gets 59.90 frames per second and a 760 gets 30.30 fps.  So 59.90 / 30.30 = 198 % which is a 98% increase.

And just so you know, when it comes to GPU power, there are two main factors.  One of them being Cuda Cores, the other being the Clock speeds.  So having lots more Cuda Cores at higher frequencies will net you a big gain.  Also the Maxwell Cuda Cores in the 970 are more powerful/efficient than the Kepler Cuda Cores in the 760.

This is very helpful info, thank you. I'll see if I can do some of the same benchmarks and see where I stand relative to the 970 and help me decide on the step up.

I'm curious if the 970s needs a bigger memory bus width to fully use the 4GB Video Memory since it probably can't use more than 3.5GB

quick over-view. Tho Pixel fill rate is up to 118% however I was about two minutes running out the door when I was writing it.

3D mark firestrike scored 6920 graphics score. Seems like mine does fall in line with the 760 tested on that site. Definitely give me some food for thought with regards to the step-up potential.
