Make sure you're running the latest motherboard bios. If the latest bios version does not correct the freezing then I would recommending flashing some older versions to see if they help resolve the issue.

Try running on a single 4gb DIMM of Ram. Mixing ram kits can provide less than favorable things to occur. If one stick doesn't work, try the other.

If you do flash the older bios, make sure you do not flash back further than the 4790k is supported.

Thanks! I'll run some more tests and action some of the things detailed with the given advice and report back.

    Just a quick update.

I have isolated each 4GB RAM sticks and have had them freeze the system. I've also run the two 2GB memory sticks together in one position without any success and I'm now running them both in the second position.

Having played with the memory I can definitely say it's happening more often, so I've now got the system resources showing on the second screen for next time. I've been experiencing the problem with Grim Fandango Remastered today, and I just lost my save data... It may be the case of using all the memory but I've previously ran some benchmarking tools without problems...

I want to try using the alternative BIOS configurations, but it's quite the hassle getting around without the Haswell compatibility straight up.
Would this information add any value to responses?
Edit: I've switched to the third position BIOS, and so far everything seems fine and the frequency of freezing I've experienced tonight has vanished. I'll check back in a few days with a result though, I don't want to jynx myself.

    Okay,

I've just had my first freeze of the day, and I had the resources>memory tab open and visible when it happened.
Nothing appears to be out of the ordinary, and it was only 3GB usage of 12GB at the time of freeze with nothing in the event log.
Whatever is reporting it is failing to report an error...
