Hi all, I recently built a new computer using the EVGA Z97 Classified motherboard, and noticed that my CPU core temperatures were sitting around 47/38/36/37- with core #0 consistently being about 10 degrees Celsius hotter than the others- when in the UEFI Bios of the motherboard. I thought that this seemed a little bit high, but continued to install windows 8.1 anyway. Once Windows had installed, I decided monitor the CPU core temperatures in CPUID HWMonitor and AIDA64 Extreme, and to my surprise, both programs reported that all of the CPU core temperatures were consistently sitting in the high twenties to very low 30's. I also stress tested the CPU in AIDA64 Extreme for 6 and a half hours and the max temperatures I reached across all cores were in the low-to-mid 60's with the average across all cores being in the mid 50's.

My system specs are as follows:

CPU- 4790k (at stock settings with turbo boost enabled)
CPU Cooler- Noctua NH-U14S
Motherboard- EVGA Z97 Classified
Graphics Card- EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0
Memory- 2x8 Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 MHz (xmp enabled is currently enabled, however I had the same results with it not enabled)
Power Supply- Corsair AX760i
System Storage #1- Samsung 256gb 850 Pro
System Storage #2- Western Digital 2tb Caviar Black

I am currently running bios version 1.02 and the CPU voltages have been left untouched at 1.067 volts. I am not certain of the ambient temperature, however, my PC is sitting openly on my desk and the outside temperature has been about 22-23 degrees Celsius over the past couple of days as it is currently summer where I live.

I just want to know if this is normal behavior or if there is anything to be concerned about.
Thanks

Those temps look good to me. It is normal for each core to be a different temp, and sometimes 10c different. Magic and wizardry causes this.

It would be of concern if your stock clocks and temps suddenly spiked. That would mean the cpu thermal paste applied by Intel was probably bad, which isn't as common as the last generation food CPUs thankfully.

At stock clocks and settings (I haven't tried anything else yet) in idle, I have seen one or two of the cores randomly spike to the high forties to low 50's, however, when the CPU was under load, I didn't see a single spike like this in the 6 and a half hour test I did and all of the cores remained very consistent.

They probably processed something briefly on those cores causing the small spike in temperature.

Okay, cool, so you wouldn't be concerned? Also, do you have any explanation for the CPU cores' temperature increase when in the UEFI?

Thanks for all your help by the way

There may be processes running in the background that are causing it to utilize the cpu constantly, raising the temp.

First day running new Z97 classified. Some of my fan connections on the motherboard do not seem to work. Any suggestions on how to get them to function?
I have visited the bios, but nothing seemed to work when I changed the +/- controllers

This man is blissfully unaware that he had been speaking to the mysterious Flatlander.
