One of my 8800gts cards went bad.  Went through the EAR process with EVGA, had everything lined up.  Made sure and told them I'm running SLI in the EAR request, and with a rep via email.   Got the replacement today, and discover they sent me a GTX 650.  I appreciate them upgrading me but...this card is not compatible with sli.   So even if they were to replace my other 8800gts with the 650, there would be no sli.  Is this common practice?  It seems to me they didn't even take into account the sli factor.  Mostly I'm just disappointed for the lack of effort put into my RMA.  This should have been caught from the start.

They should have sent you two SLI compatible cards.

honestly a GTX 650 is likely as fast as an 8800GTS SLI setup.

I didn't bother calling yet because I thought support was closed until next week? I did send an email.

I have no doubt that the 650 may be better but I want sli. I will live with the fact that my waterblocks for my 8800s will be useless. I just want to play games again.

WOW! The Release Date of 8 November 2006 so this is almost 9 Year Old Technology.
It has been at least 7 years form the OP Joined date so I would say that his cards are 7 years old.

I will find it interesting what EVGA Provides to the OP.

Yes, I joined when I got a 680i board and my 8800s. EVGA then gave me a 780i board because of all the issues with the 680i. It will be interesting. EVGA has always taken care of me. I'm also having issues with the 780i board now so it's next on the list to get fixed. My gear has lasted a long time and I attribute it to lower temps from watercooling.

I have a few EVGA GTX 690 Graphics Cards with Hyper Copper Water Blocks installed I could sell you.
This way you can keep your SLI and Water Cooling.

I appreciate the offer but I don't have much cash right now (only evga bucks).  I'm waiting to see what evga does.  I'm hoping they at least give me cards I can sli, and hopefully they are ones that I can purchase waterblocks for.

    Dear iowamoe300,

I am very sorry for the error as I can confirm that all SLI capable cards should receive a SLI capable replacement whenever possible. In this case I have submitted a new EAR for the card that you received as a replacement and they will start processing this once the RMA office reopens on the 5th of January to assist. Once you receive the replacement then please let me know the serial of your other EVGA card and I will support you with changing that one to match the replacement.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you should have any additional questions or concerns. chrisb@evga.com

I will start out by saying, Chris B. @ evga has been nothing but helpful trying to get issues sorted out.  Begin rant-

So it started out with evga sending me a GTX 650 to replace a 8800GTS (which was sli) so they sent me a non sli capable card.  Then FINALLY I got at GTX 660 to replace the 650.  Then they did an EAR on my other 8800GTS (which used the next day air EAR I had on it which doesn't seem fair) and sent me a GTX 660 that didn't work.  Finally got another GTX 660 today which I hope works but I can't really test it because...... They sent me a 780i board to replace my defective 780i ftw board, that...wait for it...wait for it... DOESN'T WORK!  I mean, I can overlook the fact I went from a 780i FTW to a regular 780i.  It's an old board, and I understand.  But damn...  Where does it end?  I have spent literally a month troubleshooting this stuff.  Spent all afternoon putting in a board that is junk.   Removing the board they sent me, putting in the old board (that works but freezes up).  Junk graphics cards sent to me.  It's a good thing that I had next day air EAR's on all of my stuff, because this would be taking even longer with ground shipping from CA to IA.  And before someone chimes in about it being old, keep in mind that its enough to do what I need which is some folding, some tf2, bfbc2 (yes I play old games).

So, to whom it may concern:  Stop sending me garbage that doesn't work!  End rant.

Thanks Sajin.  At this point, I'm not very optimistic.  Everything that has happened so far has me thinking I have the worst luck in the world.  Whoever said that they won't downgrade you is full of it because I went from a FTW board to a regular board that doesn't even work.  If you can't give me a replacement that works (I understand that it's an old mb).  Give me some options because I'm sick of messing with this rig at this point.  I'm willing to buy some new hardware if that's what it takes because frankly, I just want the rig to work where I don't have to jack with it.  Not to mention having to wait for ups with endless rma's coming that are signature required.

Update:  It has been a long frustrating road getting my rig fixed, but EVGA came through.  Everything is up and running smoothly.   Although I had to buy some new motherboard hardware, I am very happy with EVGA putting me into a new Z97 FTW motherboard.  It gave me an excuse to upgrade anyway.  Thank you Chris B. @ EVGA and whoever it was that I spoke with on the phone.
