This morning I was able to download the NEW Windows 10 technical preview version 9926.

Yes this version contains DX 12! Oh yeah!

I shall be testing this all day!

If you have folding at home installed you must close the program and reinstall the NVIDIA drivers from the NVIDIA website. The Windows 10 update will install an MS video driver which doesn't support folding at home.

    List of new features:
    • Cortana on the desktop: Cortana is your new digital assistant. She can help you search your PC and the web, carry out tasks (like setting reminders), and provide personalized suggestions. You can access Cortana from the taskbar or talk to her by selecting the microphone icon—or go hands-free and just say “Hey Cortana” (turn on this feature in Cortana settings). To customize Cortana suggestions, open Cortana’s Notebook and add interests. Cortana can learn your preferences and provide smarter recommendations over time.  Note: Cortana is currently available for U.S. English only. However, search will work in all languages.
    • New Start menu: Expand to a full-screen experience and customize the color of your Start screen.
    • New Settings app: We’ve made Settings icon-based and reorganized the categories to be more familiar. You can also use Search within the app to find the setting you want, as well as Control panel pages.
    • Easier connection to wireless audio and video: We’ve made it much easier for you to find and connect to wireless audio and video devices that support technologies like Bluetooth and Miracast. To connect, select the Connect button in the new Action center, or use the Windows+P keyboard shortcut from anywhere on your PC. When connecting to wired and wireless screens, choose to Duplicate or Extend the desktop to control a device's projection style.
    • New Photos and Maps apps: The Photos app will show your photos stored locally on your PC and OneDrive, and give you a bevy of editing options. Note: Some features, like the ability to create albums, are not yet enabled.
    • Windows Store Beta: The NEW Windows Store Beta is a *gray* tile in the Start menu or on the taskbar and the current Windows Store remains available in the Build as a *green* tile. Both the app selection and markets where the Store Beta is available is limited for now, and only basic functionality is available in this release. You can browse, search, and download apps.  International credit card, gift cards and PayPal can all be used to pay for apps and games. In-app purchases aren't available for apps downloaded through the Store Beta, though apps you already own with in-app purchase capabilities can be used. However, the ability to purchase additional in-app content is currently disabled. You can purchase apps on a device running Windows 8.1 and use those apps in this build of Windows 10, but not vice versa.
    • New Xbox app: For details on the functionality the Xbox app has in this build, click here.

I read that the preview may not be compatible with some hardware like printers, etc. I have a wireless printer. I use it, and would hate that it wouldn't be supported by Win 10 preview edition.

I only have 1 printer, but I use a Samsung wireless laser printer and it Win10 connected to it without issue.  I haven't experienced any non-combatibility with anything yet.

+2 ALL of my hardware works fine thus far. If it worked on 8.1, don't see why it wouldn't work on 10. Especially if you do an upgrade install.

It's a shame there isn't anything currently out there which would take advantage of the improvements for DirectX. Perhaps soon there will be beta software of which you can test this out with but (unless I missed something in the past few weeks) there wasn't any available software to test DX12.

More or less useless with it still trying to install only a Nvidia driver for mid-2014. Also, it's still WDDM 1.3 and not 2.0 yet. They've significantly dumbed down windows update to the point it keeps ping-ponging me back and forth to that old Nvidia driver every time I update to the most current Nvidia beta. The Windows 10 WIndows Update is horribly uninformative. It treats the end-user as totally ignorant and incapable of picking what they want to update.

I agree with this too, the other thing that would be nice is a status bar ........besides the dots going in circles. I understand it's just a "Preview" but I have had it freeze during a update and let it run not knowing it was actually frozen.

If you try to integrate the Windows Media Center with the technical preview it disables any updates from being pushed by Microsoft. Please refer to this article. Unless, of course, Microsoft has fixed it since October of last year. So far I haven't seen any fixes for this being pushed by them.

If you want to change the nature of this (considering that Microsoft has essentially disabled the option to allow your discretion for which updates to include) you would need to utilize a registry change in order to cause the updates to be performed as you would normally set it. The location is fairly simple but you may need to create the value:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\AUOptions

Each numerical value equates to the following:

    1. Never Check for updates (not recommended)
    2. Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
    3. Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
    4. Install updates automatically (recommended)
This would set the options to whatever you choose for Windows 10 technical preview, allowing you to see what is needing to be updated and/or disable it all together. Please be aware that doing this is your choice and you may/may not have critical updates applied properly if changed and there is no guarantee this registry value will be effective past the current build.
