Hi, I have GTX 580 3GB with 5 months old used because I'm not interested GTX 670 (GTX 480 died - RMA) due to weak GPGPU performance (eg: Octane Render especially)

Is GeForce driver or are games bad?

Try setting the GPU fan to the max using msi afterburner before playing the games that cause the freeze. Report back if setting the fan speed to max fixes the issue.

This solution isn't sufficient to fix freeze but I got full load 60-65 ºC@75-80% fan speed after 15-20 minutes. I have EVGA PrecisionX 16.

    Running Win 8.1 x64:
I change to 85% fan and I tested "Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams" running DX11...
-loading game (microstutter due to HDD reading) at 1st time... ~8 seconds after I got freeze during still loading game. :S
-after PC reboot to Windows... I ran the same game, loading game, play game... and few minutes after I got again freeze. But I got full load ONLY 43 ºC@85% fan.

Tomorrow I'll change videocard from GTX 580 to GTX 670 to see if I get freeze or not. ;)

Try downclocking your GPU, set both the core clock and memory clock -105 from default clocks. If that doesn't work try un-installing precision x completely, reboot pc, then retest.

Thank but I don't deserve downclock!

--> If I get same result tomorrow after GTX 670 plugged then the problem may be my motherboard found. ;)

I have changed from GTX 580 3GB to GTX 670 2GB. I was playing in Giana Sister and I got no any problems. :) But very likely GTX 580 is bad (freeze problem) - I'm sad due to 3GB VRAM and to GPGPU performance and I'll get RMA... ;)

But I continue to test LEGO Batman 3 running GTX 670... ;)

I have played LEGO Batman 3 without any problems running GTX 670. :)
Therefore, I'll send GTX 580 3GB to EVGA RMA... ;)

Thank you and happy holidays! :D
