I currently have a 132-BL-E758-A1 X58 Motherboard, Intel i7 920 and a GTX 460. It has been a faithful rig,  however newer games are becoming a bit "choppy". I am considering an overclocked 970 for upgrade. Will it function well with my now 5 year old equipment, specifically motherboard? I see two 970's at the same price. One is a dual fan and the other single. Which would be recommended? Any other recommendations? Thank you.

Yes, the 970 will work on the X58 boards.  You may have to go into the BIOS and make a change to a setting called Mem Low Gap to get it to fully run, but that's about it.  From main BIOS page, Frequency/Voltage Control > Memory Feature > change Mem Low Gap from "Auto" to "3G".

While the X58 and its processors will bottleneck the card a little bit, you'll still notice a massive improvement over your 460, which is likely getting pinched by lack of memory at this point.

Bottom line is that you'll be fine with an upgrade.

As for the fan, if you're using just one card, the dual-fan models will be quieter and cool better than the single fan.  If it's within the budget, the FTW model is going to be the best of the bunch.

I think if you can get that 920 around the 3.8+ghz mark you won't bottleneck a single 970 too badly, if at all. That saod, I agree it will be a huge improvement. Hell, it was an upgrade from my SLI 480s even before I got my second 970.

A little heartbroken :-( I went to make the purchase of the 970 FTW and not in stock. Hopefully I will be able to get it before the end of the year and take advantage of the two games offered.

Thanks I ordered from the Newegg link. I saw the link earlier but the -p4- was missing from the stock number and I wasn't certain it was the right one. When I searched the egg with the EVGA full stock number there was one with the full number listed,  but out of stock :-)
I also thought Circuity City went to heaven, or hell :-)

Got the card today and an enormous improvement! Thanks for the advice and help. Note: also got an email today from EVGA that they now have the card in stock :-) Would have been nice to get a free Rise of the Triad.

Depending on which part you picked up it should still be available.  http://www.evga.com/articles/00764/

Gives you something to test the card out with if you don't have something already.
