I am currently running two EVGA GTX 680 Classifieds on another manufacturer's X99 motherboard.  I was wondering if anyone was able to run the 9879 build since I get immediate Blue Screens when the Nvidia drivers are loaded with my board.

I have seen reports where a 780Ti and 980 caused the same situation.

Thinking about changing motherboards, but hate to spend that money if the EVGA X99s won't work either.

Thanks...

How about changing operating systems, until it's RTM! (or set up dual boot). No offence, but all the way back to WinXP alpha releases, they (OS's) clash with varying hardware components. I'm running Win 7 X64 and Win 8.1 X64, with no issues, other than some hardware vs hardware issues, which can be expected on a new chipset.

Microsoft even issues a caution with pre-release software, so you've been warned! Quote "Remember, trying out an early build like this can be risky. That's why we recommend that you don't install the preview on your primary home or business PC. Unexpected PC crashes could damage or even delete your files, so you should back up everything."

I am running 9860 build picked the slow lane for updates so cant help you, was too nervous to select fast lane, heard about issue with the 9879 build just from reading the Microsoft Tech forums. I have had no issues with the 9860 build and running on x99 EVGA classified.

marsal, I have both 8.1 and 7 running on the current X99 board, just get a little bored and need new things to do.  Since different motherboards have different configurations, I was wondering if the EVGA board would behave differently.  Since I am not really happy with my current board, not related to Windows 10, I am looking for alternatives.

efillon, I am in the Microsoft forum also.  On the 9860 build, things seemed to work normally except I could not set a custom resolution, say 5960x1080 instead of 5760x1080, for bezel adjustments without a Blue Screen.  In 9879, the build will not install without rolling back.  I am just not willing to wait on 9860 for another two months to see some progress.  I do have a Z87 board with Intel graphics which took the 9879 build fine.

bcavmaugh, an sense of adventure is something we all have.  Playing with new OSes is a way for me to exercise that need.  I never risk my real installs.

    Thanks for all the responses.

I'm running on the X79 Dark board with Win10 build 9879 without any issue's you describe.  That is with the latest graphics driver and the previous one as well.

I know it's not an X99 platform, but thought this might be helpful...

The word I heard was they are having problems with the Processor L3 cache and some type of conflict.  The video drivers seem to be directly involved with the problem and some folks using AMD GPUs are seeing the same problem.

All I can do now is to wait for the next build and see if they fix the situation.  It would have been very interesting if Windows 10 would have been released RTM and not had someone running my configuration bumping into the problem first.

Best to wait until later builds, 10 is still early on.

I just moved my GTX 680 cards from the X99 to a Z87 motherboard and did a clean install of 9879.  I saw the same problems I saw on the X99 board in Build 9860.  That being, the Nvidia Control panel will not open a window unless you close the Nvidia Experience process and when selecting a Custom Resolution with spanned monitors, a Blue Screen presents blaming an unhandled exception and naming cdd.dll.

It seems Microsoft is not putting a lot of effort into the more powerful machines in Windows 10.  Probably having a hard time getting one OS to run Phones/mobile devices and PCs.

It sounds like it could be the GFE is causing your issue.  Try uninstalling it and do some testing.  See if that resolves it.  I have no need to use the GFE and prefer not to use it.  Most of my reasons can be found in this link below.

It has been known to cause issue's for some even running W7/8/8.1.

I will check into the GFE more, but I don't normally install it when I do Custom Setting installs.  But it seems to show up in the Task Manager anyway, along with several other background information gathering utilities.

We will see if Microsoft improves the situation with the next build release.

    Thanks.

I was able to install build 10130 of Windows 10 just fine with my x99 Classified (i7-5930K) and my EVGA 970 GTX SSC 2.0+ (in SLI x2).

However, the CreativeLabs / SoundBlaster hardware functionality is not yet correct in Windows 10. Sound in stereo sometimes works and sometimes has errors. Sound in 5.1 does not work.

I am unsure if this issue is addressed in build 10162, so I am waiting for a known update before I attempt Win10 again.

I've been using W10 TP from the 100XX builds since December on my current hardware.  No issues, but I recommend:
installing the latest Intel Chipset driver package
install the W8.1 Soundblaster driver from EVGA downloads
install PAX drivers on top (forgot to add, you need to turn off drive signing; search, but basically you reboot and start in a specific mode)

For my SB problems, I noted that it was defaulting to the digital out sometimes (no sound, playing). i disabled this interface and installed the PAX drivers on top which worked out solving my issue.  I left configs at default (default studio 24 bit).
On previous builds, I would use the base Microsoft driver that came with that release and sometimes it would be just a HD compatible driver, but it would work.  I'm currently on build 10061 and installed per the top.

For the NVIDIA drivers, do not install the 8.1 driver.  Either use the one from Windows update or go to Nvidia and install their BETA which has started support recently.  Only install the base driver and PhysX in a custom install.
