I have a EVGA GTX970 and I can not get it to overclock at all, even with 100mhz I get black screens. I have tried turning up the power and maxing out the fans nothing works. I only use EVGA PercisionX and noting is working. Has anyone had the same problem?

    EVEN?!
    100MHz OC is pretty much.
    try to increase GPU voltage.

I have the 970 04G-P4-0974-KR I have the latest PrecisionX I dl it before I tried any overclocks.

I was afraid that messing with the voltage would kill the card, if it cant take 100mhz more voltage could be the final nail.

I can't give you any estimates until you post your complete system specs to include make and model of PSU. Please also include any other overclocking (CPU, memory, etc).

Changing the voltage in PrecisionX will not void your warranty.  Volt-modding a card with a soldering iron will, however.

Feel free to raise the voltages, as the voltages within PrecisionX keep the card within the Nvidia spec for TDP.  You still have to contend with heat, and stability, but you won't be voiding your warranty.

Have you checked the GPUs fan speed/%? I have accidentally locked mine @ 30% before and it did not go very well.

Well I gave it a shot and still no luck with overclocks. I set my fans to 80% wile I tested, I used EVGA OC Scanner X and the screens would go black. Then I tied Heaven Benchmarks and got the same thing. I tried it with every voltage setting in PrecisionX and my overclock was only 100mhz. I must have gotten a card that dose not like overclocking.

Try 10MHz.  Trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

The voltage and fan speed is only part of it.  MHz plays a huge part as well.

If you can't afford to kill it ... you ought not be gambling with it

My suggestion would be to do some more research into overclocking so you know what your adjusting and what to look out for ( temps , airflow ect ) look at some others results to get an idea of what to expect.  Read up some more and do things as ty_ger07 suggested ( a little bit at a time ) ... small steps won't get you into trouble and kill the card but big leaps will.

Yes, exactly.  Education, patience, and small steps are necessary.

Technically, the CPU can overclock.    There is no reason why it can't.

I just run a gpu bench like uh ( think i might say name wrong ) KIA from MSI or something like that and slowly raise gpu clock in 10mhz incriments and let it run for bout 2 mins after each raise then keep going till artifacts or crash and lower it back down to stable. Increase voltage and repeat then i do same for memory. Might take a few but least u can narrow down ur stable clocks then i run Heaven once i think i got them dialed in. My method anyway lol.
