Well your i5 is unlocked, have you tried overclocking it? It could be bottlenecking your graphics card. That would be the part I would upgrade but of course you need a new motherboard too.
Another thing to consider is you're using different capacity RAM modules. Its best to use same size/speed for system stability. Try taking out the 2Gb sticks to see if it boosts performance. Put your other sticks in slots 1 and 3.

Thanks for the reply. im gunna try that, its been awhile since i built this pc so i cant remember. Also is there a way i can find out before pulling them? I have tried overclocking and i had success getting it up to 4.2 Ghz without upping anything but then i started to get some blue screens on occasion and had to revert it back to stock. I am always scared about overclocking just because my money situation isn't so great but man am i tempted.

I suggest you buy an aftermarket cooler before you start overclocking (like Corsair H105, Swiftech H220x, Noctua NH-D15) but make sure it is compatible with your case. I would also try overclocking the GPU but make sure you read guides first and always watch your temps before considering to upgrade to a better GPU.

i have a aftermarket cooler corsair cant remember the name its big got 2 fans attached to it. I got a overclock going of 4.3 but the game isnt running much better. I tryed ocing my gpu witch didnt really help to much either. It seems like cpu and motherboard might be a good place to start? I was also wondering how much my hard drive could be effecting FPS. I have been using my same 300 gig hard drive from at least 2 builds ago, so that means atleast 5 years old. Thanks in advance for any advice guys your awesome.

Ok well that cpu is bottlenecking you at stock speeds. Overclock it. 4.2 with a slight voltage bump should be fine. I would recommend stressing it with prime95 as well as watching temps with something like RealTemp. The gpu definitely isn't a problem unless your at 1440p which I doubt. As for the RAM, yea, please pull the 2gb sticks and run with 8. I only have 8GB and my system runs just fine. I play BF4/LoL/BL2 etc etc with no ram bottlenecking issues. How old is your OS? By that, I mean how long has it been since you reformatted? If it's been longer then 18 months you might have a ton of clutter. What types of games are you trying to play, and what kind of FPS are you getting?

I would suggest stepping up to something with a little more power. If you have a microcenter in your area, i'd recommend looking into a i7 4790K with an Asus Z97 motherboard. They have really good deals in store... Otherwise, i'd look into a i5 4690K and Asus Z97 board. You can also look into buying a used i7 860 that will work wit your current board, they seem to go for pretty cheap on eBay.

You're saying your CPU/Rig sucks, how did you get to this conclusion? Did you try running something and didn't work? Are you comparing to other similar rigs? What is your baseline? There are tons of ways to boost your PC's performance (as mentioned above) and budget always plays a big role, well, at least for me.

well basically i always have felt that my Rig has not performed as well as it should have even back when i originally purchased it. I was upgrading from a quad core that was roughly 2.3 i cant even remember honestly or i would give the specs. I did a full upgrade from the cpu ram motherboard and gpu and the increase in performance was minimum at best along with some weird little issues that had to be resolved. Right now i am trying to run Far cry 4 at a decent frame rate, now i know i have done my research the game isn't optimized well but other games have had varying performance that starts strong and usually gradually gets worst. Money is a huge issue for me at the moment so i am looking into possible just upgrading a cpu hopefully without the motherboard <i know my chip-set is old now :( big mistake when upgrading>

If you want to run 3DMark Firestrike, standard settings and post your score, it should give us a rough idea on where you at.

I too have felt let down by the P55 SLI since the beginning. The biggest disappointment about the board is boot time. Takes quite a bit of time from power button to starting to load windows. It also seem that the fewer drives the better IMO. Windows seems to take longer to boot when there are multiple drives hooked up. SSD was the biggest improvement I made to my P55 SLI. I got the i7 860 from the get go. I have never been able to OC my CPU. I don't think I have an unlocked CPU. Do not use the latest BIOS! The one prior was better (I cant remember which version it was).

ohh scary im trying to update bios but if you guys could tell me what version to go with id appreciate it, also since the switch i havnt seen a huge increase in framed <basically none> however does seem to have less stutters/hiccups thus feeling alot smoother. I have such a old Harddrive i bet that could be a problem as well. I cant wait for the day i have a SSD
