Well, I'm finally doing it.  I bought myself some new hardware after almost 8 years.  Not because anything is failing nor because my current rig wasn't supporting most of my needs anymore.  But simply because it felt like it was time.

So this is my new hardware....

ASRock z97 extreme 6
Devil's Canyon I5 4690k CPU
Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler
256 Gig Samsung 850 Pro ssd
2 TB WD Black HDD
2x4 gig G.Skill Trident X Series ram
Windows 8.1 64 bit
No new video cards yet...will have to wait a couple of months
Still using my old Cosmos 1000 case and Thermaltake 850w PSU

I've been reading up on the UEFI as this is new tech to me.  It appears that my old GTX 260's do not support UEFI.  Will that be a problem?   Will I need to run my machine in the old Legacy BIOS until I get a new graphics card?

Built 12/01/2021
Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Elite AX
i7 11700K
1 EVGA RTX 3070
2x16 Gig ram G Skill DDR4 3200 Ripjaws
1 Samsung 500GB SSD 980 NVMe PCIE 3 x 4.0
1 Samsung 1TB SSD 980 Pro NVMe PCIE 4 x 4.0
24" NEC HDCP Widescreen LCD 1920x1200

I do not think that your GTX 260's will be an issue, but you can no longer get new drivers for them.
Version:  340.52  WHQL   Release Date:  2014.7.29 is the last version NVIDIA will release.

Thank you for the reply.  Guess I'll know for sure next weekend when I get the rest of what I need to assemble my new gear.

Yeah, your card will be fine. You just won't be able to use the new "secure boot" features with Windows 8.1. Your video card must have a UEFI firmware (instead of the old BIOS) in order to enable that feature.

Good luck on the new build, and set up a Mods Rig page when you get it all put together so we can check it out.

Look out for cheap upgrade deals to Windows 10 when it's released. I bought a couple of keys directly from Microsoft for Windows 8 Pro when it was released in 2012. $40 each.

Pretty much what Sprinx said.  You will have to run the motherboard in legacy mode with the 260.  You'll be missing out on the secure boot and fast boot features of the OS, but will not otherwise cause a problem.
