I have the motherboard mentioned in the title running with i7-930 and trying to  upgrade for Westmere. Does anyone know if Westmere is supported on this board?

According to the link below, it's supported natively on the SLI3, FTW and Classified, but was wondering if someone actually tried on the board I'm interested in.

http://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/legacy/

Done some research in this forum, seems like a Rev issue. Mine is 1.1, not sure if it still needs to be mod.

Yes you need to move the resistor from R538 to R539. Had a 1.1 I just did the mod to but board had hardware issues with voltage to ram being almost zilch, 0.112v so now have a rev 1.2

No idea how to mess with these resistors. Is this something that evga would do?

thanks, I did contact customer support and they noted that this mod costs $50 so the board can accept Westmere. To me that's very expensive and I was expecting it to be free of charge (excluding shipping). Did anyone had to go through the same?

    SnakeBite,

To give you a bit more information. When the initial X58 Chipset was launched, the ability to use a Westmere CPU with your motherboard did not exist.  At the time of launch back in 2008 only Bloomfield, Gainestown and Nehalem were supported on the released chipset.  With later releases of Bios we offered the ability to use Gulftown without a hardware modification as it was not needed.  However it was not the same when Intel released Westmere CPUs. At this time we had secondary launches of the X58 chipset introducing SLI 3, FTW3 and Classified 3 coupled with the new features that these 3 boards offered, the ability to use Westmere was native.  In order to support our earlier adopters of the X58's we offer a service modification to the motherboard. However it is not performed through our normal warranty service as the modification is not deemed a fault or failure of the motherboard's ability to function as designed.

I hope this helps to clear up any questions you may have.

    Regards and Happy Holidays,

Thanks for the clarification. When I originally bought the board (back in March 2010), Westmere CPUs were out and I was under the impression that my board would run this type of CPUs, especially when no disclaimer was added to support the fact that it can't run Westmere CPUs. So my assumption was that my board would support Westmere.

UPDATE: EVGA will be performing the upgrade for me for free since my board is still under warranty. Thanks Evga for a great customer service.

I bought 3 boards from Fry's Electronics back on December 20, 2010.  Two boards were revision 1.1 so mod is needed for these two.  One board was Revision 1.2.  Isn't there a service center in Brea?  I live in Fullerton so I could take the board to the center for the mod.  I wonder if the mods could be done for me free of charge?  I cannot afford the $50 a piece mod right now.  Money is tight and I have quite a few eVGA video cards and motherboards due to the good customer service I have gotten so far.
    Thanks.

Yes, the US HQ is in Brea. As long as you registered the boards within the 30 days after buying them and uploaded the receipt etc... than you should still be under the lifetime warranty and should be able to get the fix free also. Of course, you will have to speak to Jayson probably to find out for sure. Being you live so close they may work something else out with you too. Evga are pretty accommodating and will usually go the extra mile and do the unusual, where other companies would send you packing. A lot of it will depend on your account and how you added the mobos to your account, if at all.

That could be a problem.  I never registered the boards until today.  I tossed the receipts a while ago.  I guess I am out of luck?  What exactly is the mod involve for this board?  It says to move R358 to R359.  Are we moving resistor to R359 and leave R358 open?  Or we just shorting R359 and leave R358 alone?
    Thanks.

Well, your not outta luck....you can pay the 50.00 usd for each board to be done, I would assume, but getting it free under warranty is not gonna happen. As far as the mod goes, I myself have never done it or even really looked into it. Ive just ran across various posts and info from other hardware hackers that have done it, so youll have to research that yourself im afraid.

I just did this mod on my board and my Westmere up and running.  However I have a strange issue where uncore multiplier is stuck at 20X regardless of bios setting.  Can you check what your uncore speed and multiplier is at?  Can you change yours at all with the rev 2 board?

Which chip are you using?  I am using the Asus P6T now and I got 22X with the X5650.  Do you have turbo?  That could be it.  But my Asus doesn't have that.

I'm using a X5670, the CPU multiplier works fine, it's the uncore multiplier that's causing issues, its stuck at 20 whereas I need to lower it to about 12-14 to keep uncore under control for 200mhz bclk

I am running X5650 at 4.4Ghz, 200 bclk.  So the multiflier is at 22X.

Any one else got this same problem?

What's your uncore at? Man this chip i got seems to run 4.2 at best stock volts but will not do 4.4
    What cooling are you using?

I had to run it at 1.35V.  I am using the Corsair close loop water cooling H50.  No better than air, but a little more quiet I guess.  I have the cooler for over a year now, probably longer.  Temp is idle at 31.  Never go higher than 50C.  I don't remember the uncore but I ran it 22X200.  I have all 6 RAM slot populated and running them at PC1200 due to it won't go to specs PC1600.  I might back it down as I don't bench or anything.

That's awesome, 50C is really good for the voltage and speed you're running.  Your uncore sounds ungodly high esp. in order to stay under 1.35 VTT
I'd like to get 4.4 or even 4.6 down the road but I think the board is really holding me back now, this is a Rev 1.1 version of the E758 so I'm sure there are some kinks in it.  Plenty of other brands/models hitting 4.4 with ease with my chip though

Yea, I used to be all ASUS only but at the time this board was down to $130 with discount while ASUS P6T was still around $200 so hard to argue with discount.  Thanks for all the insights, I'm pretty happy where I am right now actually since thermals/power consumption is really good for 4.2 (lower than my Bloomfield i7 950 running at 4.2) and I'm moving my build to more silence focused

Very good clocks and with HT on!  Do you might sharing what's your cooling setup?  I'm on a rev 1.1 board that had to be modded and I believe bad_dude was in the same boat before he went P6T, there could be other revisions on v1.2 that helps with your situation
I do find it interesting you have access to multiplier 23 where as my board I can either get 21, 22 (stock max) or with turbo, 23 in BIOS and post but that jumps to 24 in Windows.  So it seems you're doing the same thing but with 5660 you're at 21x stock + turbo jumping to 23x in Windows

Actually I was on Asus P6T then bought 3 eVGA boards.  Two were 1.1 and one 1.2.  I have not tried them yet but I know 1.1 needed a mod.  I am debating going to eVGA for the Vdroop control.  But no time yet.  I tested all the boards are good.  These eVGA boards were bought for friends which dumb me didn't register for lifetime warranty.

Honestly I'm pretty happen with the 21x200 setup I have right now, I do get that "itch" to push it further, but I'm running a Coolermaster 212+ cooler and while no slouch definitely not top end.  It's winter with cooler ambient but at 21x200 my CPU temps are around 52C across all cores doing IBT.  The fan speed is also low with this setup and while trying to hit 4.4 last night temps got up to the 60s C.  While my old Bloomfield was happy rolling around in the 70s C, I just can't justify the extra 200Mhz (5% speed) for all that noise and power.
