Hi, I received my RMA today, a Gtx 660 2gb (up from a 460). I think it has a temperature issue, when idle it's at 38°c, while gaming (Diablo, Guild Wars 2) with vertical sync enabled around 65°c. But without vsync or while testing it with OC Scanner, it goes to 100°c almost instantly and the fan is like a jet engine. And the moment I turn off OC scanner it drops back to about 75°c.

My case is roomy, has good air flow and the card has plenty of space.

Is this normal, or do I need to RMA it right away again?

Under normal conditions with adequate airflow in your case, you shouldn't be seeing 100c.

You may want to remove the side of your case and aim a box fan or similar at it and do some testing.  If that makes your temp drop quite a bit, I would say you have poor airflow to your GPU.

You may also want to try using a custom fan profile using either PrecX or MSI AB.  That should help quite a bit as well.

I did as you suggested and removed the side and aimed a fan at it. Same thing, card jumps from 35 idle to 97-100 almost instantly and drops almost as fast.

Based on that, it sounds like you need to RMA it imo.

    108C.

Have you tried reapplying the thermal paste on the card? If not, give that a shot before RMA'ing the card.

Ok, I reapplied the thermal paste (old paste was a mess btw, can't understand how that passes as an RMA). Knocked the temp down to 90c under load and it takes a while to get there, unlike before where it jumped straight to 100c.
This is using OC Scanner, while gaming (Dragon Age Inquisition) I get 80c. Is this ok for this card?

80c is perfectly fine but it could be better. What type of paste did you use?

I had some that came with my Cooler Master EVO Heatsink. Using the fan profile bdary posted above I'm getting 73c in Dragon Age. But in OC Scanner it still goes to 90c.

    73c is good.

Wouldn't worry about the 90c inside OC Scanner since you won't be running it 24/7.

If the jet engine fans and high temps bother you (and you don't transport your computer), watercooling is always an option for you.  There are numerous ones to choose from.  Glad to hear re-applying thermal paste worked well though.
