PrimeGrid's Saint Nicholas' Challenge
From December 5th 00:00:00 UTC until December 6th 00:00:00 UTC
Yes, this is a 24hrs only Challenge, and is a part of PrimeGrid's Challenge Series.
So far this year, we have established us at a nice 6th place, so to keep this position, it would be cool if we could have some cores at this one too.
The WU's we will be served this time is SGS-LLR. Since I never ran any of those I downed a batch to have a look.
Those are short WU's, 20min plus.

And, from what I see, they make some heat.
After download, I heard my fan suddenly changed gear. I fired up "Real Temp 3.70" and watched the temp rised to sub 90c.
At one occation one or more cores reached 94c.
I had a GPU WU going, so I had to turn that one off to try reduce the heat in the cabinet.
Seems to stabilize at 82-85c.
(having some issues with uploading screenies, will try edit in one more shortly)
There..

So.. Hope to see you there, and watch your temps boyz

    WOW! 16 Cores.
Run RealTempGT.exe I want to see if it shows all 8 Base Cores.
    RealTemp.exe only shows 4 Cores even on a 6 Core 4960X.
The GT Version is in the same Folder as RealTemp.exe

You can also play with a file called i7TurboGT.exe too.

I ran through a dozen of em or so, HT off, pulling in 11 minutes. 23 minutes or so with ht on so still a win with half the cores. (i7-4820k @ 4.4 Ghz)

I concur with devlin. 11:05 with HT off and 24+ with HT on.

on a side note i pulled down some mega pps.. 1 hour! literally between 60-70 minutes everytime! HT on it was 2½-3 hours. I guess when it comes to primegrid they all benefit from HT off.

After the one batch I noticed "Real Temp" had logged both 97 and 99c on some cores. That's way too high for my taste.
Think I will run this event with stock clock's, no GPU work and HT/ Off to keep the temps within limits.
Regarding "Real Temp GT", it show 6 cores only.
The screen below shows temps when the LLR's are done, and running POGS only.

Edit: Seems the i7 Turbo GT version has got all the cores:

99c is definitely scary, I've seen it once or twice.. most of these new processors especially the 2011's are 110c TJ Max (if you add yours up on real temp it's says 95-105 and is different on every core, weird)

Looks like RealTemp GT needs an update.
Funning that i7 Turbo GT shows all 8 cores while RealTemp GT only 6. Still better than the non GT version that only show 4 Cores.
I ran some last night with HT ON and they take less than 15 minutes to complete on an i7-3930K OC at 4200MHz.

Run AIDA64 Extreme Edition to see what your Temps are as well, you can run it I think for 30 Days for Free.

    T minus 9:50.
    Are we ready ?
Due to this ungodly starting time, I had to fool around with Windows job scheduler.
Starting 86cores in time depend on.... oh well, we'll just have to hope for the best.

I'll be taking a performance hit as I'm finishing up the folding on the 980's for the TZC.

Cranked PrimeGrid... I should see some better results I hope.

If not, eh, I'm ordering a 6 core at the end of the month...

135 Team's, almost 700 participants, and Our small crew grabbing hard on 5th place
Curious to see what will happen in the Overall standings.
Fantastic acheivement, and a great fun race so far.

Don't forget, the last challenge of the year should be right up our GPU alley. PPS-Sieve. Nice short WU's that bring a hefty point package.
I want to to hear some coil whine from everybody!

Edit: Ooh I see it starts in less than 2 weeks.
