So bear with me a bit, its been most of a month since I had a working desktop thanks to the X99 FTW.. First, I've been building computers for 19 years and I have never had as much trouble as I have with this upgrade. Old power supply died, so I upgraded.. Intel i7 5820k X99 FTW 32GB Crucial Ballistix (4x8GB) However, the new board would not complete POST. It would stop every time on code b7. Reading the forums here, i tried mix and match with the memory, without memory it stopped on code 53 (expected) but I could never get past b7, and never got any video output. Reseated the CPU, there were no bent pins. Also, the motherboard would not respond to the case power button, it would turn on if the power supply switch was on and would not turn off til the switch was turned off. Not having another LGA 2011v3 board/CPU to test with, I sent both motherboard and CPU back to Newegg for replacement (Yay, Newegg customer service). In the meantime, I loaded all my components back onto the old motherboard( i7 970, Evga FTW3 X58)with the new power supply and everything works perfectly. So I know for a fact that all the peripherals are fine. Got the replacement CPU and board, installed everything again and this one has exactly the same problem. Stops on error code b7, no video out. Tried mix and match with the memory, no POST. Tried reseating the CPU, no POST. One memory stick installed in slot 1, no peripherals, no POST. Took a macro photo of the empty CPU socket with my camera, blew it up on the big monitor and verified there are no bent pins. Reinstalled everything. Still nothing, no POST, no video out, nothing. At least this one responds to the case power button, but that's not much help. So I'm two boards and two CPUs into this (and out quite a lot of money) and doing no better than when I started. Reading these forums, I keep seeing that people have the same problems again and again. Are these boards just THAT unreliable?

You don't have other memory to try, at least 2 DIMM with 4GB. On my board I have different BIOS on position 2, did you tried to play with that. Tried to disable XMP too and to set speed from specification or lower and same latency manual.

At the moment, no other memory to try, but that would mean that all 4 brand-new Crucial DIMMS are bad. This is not likely. Both BIOSs do the same thing. It isn't possible to change BIOS settings because there is no video output. POST does not complete.

There is no configuration of memory slots/DIMMS that results in a complete POST. Not even with a single DIMM in slot 1. Not even with each of 4 different DIMMs tried individually in slot 1. Not even with any two DIMMs in slots 1 and 3. In all instances it stops on error b7. I covered this in the OP.

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere unless I missed it, but I assume you're using DDR4 memory?

Yes. Also, no other type is going to physically fit in the slots.

Good point. I forgot about that. On the X79 boards, code b7 is a memory issue. Memory training issue specifically according to the Dark board guide. Not sure if it's the same for X99. Since everything works on your X58 that you could use from your new build, and you've now tried two CPU's and mobo's with the same issue, you may just have a bad set of ram sticks.

Its very hard to believe that all four of them are individually bad. Also the problems with the two boards are slightly different, the first one had power-on issues as well. I"m trying to find another stick of RAM to test with, but I'm much more inclined to believe that this is an issue with the board itself (again) based upon what I'm seeing and what I've read about these boards around the internet.

Since I'm still inside 30 days from purchase, I'm going to go ahead and RMA the memory and replace it with a different brand. We'll see how it goes. In the meantime, the old board/CPU goes back to work.

It makes sense to me to see if you can rule it (memory) out or not as the cause. Good luck and hope that it's and it works out for you...

Feed it a set of transformer dimms (gskill ripjaws ), got the 2666 15-15-15-35 tuned down to 12-12-13-27 with a little juice, good kit that runs super cool. This is the most stable platform I've worked on to date, be patient and you'll probably be rewarded. Any chance you try to hit reset cmos button before firing it up? Dumb question, but might help.

I've used Mushkin for years and never had a problem, so I'm going back to them. Their DDR4 wasn't available at the time of the original purchase, but it is now. Newegg approved the refund so I'm just waiting for it to post on my account before buying the new memory. Should be back with it next week. And yes, reset CMOS during testing and no change.

Try installing one stick in the other slots. If you tried that, I read through a few times and missed it, so I apologize.
With the Micro I had, DIMM 1 was bad, and surprise that EVGA said it worked after the RMA. They also said they tested the replacement board, but it was a brand new board still sealed in the box, that they letter said it had not been opened.
I hope you get it figured out.

when you inserting the dimm modules in slots you have to make sure you hear that click which mean the dimm is correctly seated in the slots. i am a computer parts seller and builder since 1995 and from my experience is most of the cases if you don't hear that click thing when you insert the ram modules the memory won't be detected or worst case scenario will be detected with plenty of issues errors black / blue screens and so on. I have purchased for myself a brand new ftw x99 mobo with some cheap ddr4 memory from crucial , i have installed everything without making any preliminary test and when i powered on everything was just fine. I am not excluding the posibility of faulty memory aswell but as EVGA staff advised so many times here on the forum make 100% sure you are seating the ram and the cpu correctly.

KnockWurst Short version: This memory does not work in this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148867 This memory does: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226602 Long version: With the Crucial memory, any single stick in any slot was no POST no video out. With the Mushkin memory, it POSTed on the first first try with one stick in and on the second try fully loaded. Maybe CAS 16 is just too slow and the board wouldn't cooperate. Case closed.
What? I have this memory from Crucial that was given together from one of EVGA's promotions with the X99 classified. Ironically I had a MB blowout which I don't think had anything to do with it.
