As titled states once I install the second 980 the system will reset every time past the x58 sli bios screens during start-up. With one 980 installed the system will boot normal into win 7. I've tried switching cards outs thinking one of the them was bad causing the issue. This only happens when both are installed. Never had a problem with 680 sli or the recent replacement of 290x crossfire. PSU 1300 G2 which I was powering the 290x's with and no problems. I understand this is an aging system, but it's served my needs. Looking to see if anyone had any suggestions or sli 980's on a x58 without problems.

Sounds like a motherboard BIOS issue.

Yes that's what I'm thinking too with reading about other chipsets having the same sort of problems. Wonder if EVGA would do a custom bios?

I would call them because the x58 system while aging is still very viable and popular to this day. If you need a fix to get sli to work then they should be ready to do that I would hope anyways. Let us know what you find out.

I've gotten a response for EVGA support: In the BIOS, under Frequency/Voltage Control | Memory Feature, try setting the "Memory Low Gap" to it's highest setting, then see if both cards will work when installed. Haven't tried it yet as I'm at work

Update: To let everyone know changing the "Memory Low Gap" setting WORKS!!! You will have to change it from auto to the highest setting of "G3". Just want to say Thank-you to Erin from EVGA Support for solving the problem.

I am running 2 970s with most settings on AUTO.. zero issues. [Update] New Nvid driver came out, I installed it yesterday, I also put in my 980X but even before the CPU upgrade.. in Crysis 3 was have a crash to desktop and in GPU testing firestrike, I would lose sync and test would stop.. I also from reading this, Set my setting to G3, helped stability issue caused by new driver. I will also try to tweak my CPU for stability also.

Yes that should fix it but also make sure you have the latest BIOs installed

It's not really about Crossfire or SLI. It's about the memory resources on the board. So, yes, give it a shot if you're having issues with the board and multiple cards.
