Hello,
I'm overclocking an E5-1660 on x79 classified K3 at 4.5GHz. 4 days before, it runs flawlessly @Vcore=1.25v, passed aida64 stress test. But each day I have to add 0.01v to make it stable for stress test. Today it's 1.29v, yes, at 1.28 it would bsod(Clock watchdog timeout) when stressed, at 1.26 I can't even boot into system! What's wrong?
My bios settings:
pll override : on
vdroop : off
ocp : off
others are left unchanged
I tested the stability @4.7Ghz, 1.4v, 68C; @4.8Ghz, 1.45v, 78C, hardware failure after 1min of stress test. I suspect these high temperature test have harmed my cpu so that it needs more voltage to keep stable.
Help plz

If you posted pics of your BIOS Overclock and memory pages, you might get some suggestions.  Or list all your OC and Memory settings so we know where things are at.  Like what are your CPU multiplier settings?  What are your Bclock settings, etc...

At this point, you're not giving enough information for anyone to help much.

    Thanks.
But I'm a noob in overclocking. These are all settings I've changed in bios, other settings are left unchanged as optimal default. My memory settings are G.Skill Sniper 2400 xmp1, 2*4g. That's everything I know.
There's also a strange phenomenon, it needs more voltage to boot into windows, then I turned down 0.01v voltage each time in e-leet, from 1.29 to 1.25, each time it passed aida64 stress test, but strait from 1.29 to 1.25 resulted in sudden bsod clock_watchdog_timeout.
In these tests all the cores reached at most 63C temperature, usually between 56 and 60.
What's the cause? What's the problem?
    Thank you.

e5-1660 is 3960x's xeon equivalent, they are the same in terms of overclocking.
I use 45x multiplier and default 100 bclk
different from my previous e5-4617 es, 1660's cpu temp and cpu package temp are roughly equal to cores' temps, always not higher than the hottest core.
4617's cpu temp is 10C higher than the hottest core under load. Isn't it strange?

Thats the reason Kingpin used this chip to place world records , I have seen this overclock past 5.9GHz , which is insane .
Also they say this takes less volts than a 3960x : A 3960X needed 1.35V for a OC at 4.5GHz but needed more than 1.4V when passing 4.5Ghz mark , but this chip overclocked past 5Ghz at 1.4V .
Because your running that at 4.5Ghz I would suggest to bump the vcore up to 1.3V , then do some heavy benchmarks/test and see if you still see the errors.
