It sucks because I would have bought the GTX 970 with Titan cooler if I didn't already buy the EVGA reference cooler version. :[

I can also confirm that BB's reference GTX 970 comes bundled with Nvidia's game promotion deal as well

Just an update here, we are working to bring a reference cooler version to market, no promises yet as we are still in early stages though, so please stay tuned.

I really would prefer purchasing an EVGA reference cooler card, but they may be a little late to the game.  I don't know if I, or others, are going to want to hold out for an EVGA card that might not ever be released.

Thanks for the info.  Too bad I didn't see this earlier today before BB closed.  I'm going to return/repurchase the card to get the promo and wait a while for the second to see if EVGA puts one out since I have so eVGA bucks to use if they do.

Damn I guess I will have to go in-store and ask for the promo.  I specifically asked when I bought last week but they may not have had them yet.  Did you buy online or in-store, and was it a physical coupon if you went instore?

Just bought two 970s with titan style cooler. No vapor chamber but looks the same with the geforce gtx LEDs on side. Beautiful cards. Like pics above.  They are available at so.cal Best Buys. I purchased two at the Anaheim store, the only two they had. Cerritos and Fullerton had them. Westminister, Lakewood, Long Beach, all have them still. Anaheim now says available in 3-5 days. Orange also 3-5.  I checked this morning and was shocked when I saw the picture and that it said pick up available today. On my lunch I went over (i work nearby), and expected to see an acx version or some other muilti fan version. He had to go to the back, they only had 700 series and 600 series cards out. (??) lol. He brought out what I was hoping for!!! Wasted no time, got them both and left, back to work :(  They are installed, lights on and can customize thru geforce experience. My evga pro sli bridge led isnt adjustable, its just on. EVGA should have made these cards. Nvidia made them. They are 379.99. Little over 800 for two. Worth it.  Backplate also included :)  Im happy

Re: Evga 970 Titan Reference Cooler? 2014/12/01 09:30:05 (permalink)
So what happens if I need customer support with this Nvidia GTX 970 from bestbuy? Does Nvidia cover it like EVGA would cover one of theirs? Does anyone know how their customer support stacks up? The specs say 3 year warranty, I've just never had to deal with Nvidia directly before.

Nevermind, answered my own questions. Nvidia has lifetime Technical support, advanced replacement shipping (to avoid downtime) RMA's, and replacements just like anyone else. The only difference between them and EVGA I think, is that EVGA won't void your warranty for removing the cooler. However, Nvidia does. The nice thing though, is that as long as you keep the cooler (heatsink, fan, etc) on the GPU, you can disassemble the rest of the card without voiding your warranty. Thats nice for me since I plan on painting it.

Bestbuy price matches though, which could potentially score us a gtx 970 with nvidia cooler for cheaper than 379, which I don't know if EVGA will do.

Just a heads up Best Buy wasn't able to help me at all on the phone.  Even after finally getting through to digital downloads the help was worthless.  I ended up going into the store with my receipts to get my codes.  The girl working customer service was very helpful but the telephone number was just painful.

Cool, that's even easier then.  Just go up to the customer service desk and they have the codes there?

I just brought the receipts to customer service it says she did an exchange on them.  The code you enter on the nvidia website should be printed on the receipt.  I didn't bring in anything else, I left the cards/boxes at home.  Good luck.

Oh yea. The packaging.. The cards with the awesome coolers and back plates just look and feel like top notch. Super glad nvidia is offering them at bb. Whoever the guy who kept screaming reference 970s don't exist.. Here they are... Don't think u can get anymore reference than an nvidia branded 970.

2 of them are doing just fine with farcry 4 on ultra settings @ 5760x1080.. -mb cuz I hate it anyways. 3 should be good times.

EDIT* oh yeah.. No coil wine at all.

Now that you've had them for a few days, how have the temperatures been?

I see that some of you guys say you price matched to newegg at bestbuy. What card exactly did you price match it to? Since there are no other refrence 970s being sold how did newegg give you a lower price on a diffrent model 970? I thought they had to be the same model?

Looks like I am late to the party on this.  Early in this thread a certain person was really giving it to me for suggesting (proving actually, NVIDIA even confirmed) there was a reference design cooler of the GTX 970.  I was at BB this weekend and there she was.  Took some pics etc and came here to grab my validation and pfft... looks like I am weeks late to the party.  I am also excited to see EVGA is looking closer into this.  As I am loyal, I will definitely wait a bit to see what materializes as I prefer to buy from EVGA!

Jacob is there any news on this?

I'm going to go pick up a GTX 970 from BestBuy today but would happily wait if EVGA was coming out with a SC or FTW reference cooler in the next month or so.

I picked up the reference 970 from Best Buy.  I have to say I'm a bit sad because this is the first card since 2006 that was not from EVGA.

I know you guys have a blower style card but after the noise issues with the 760 blower I didn't want to take a chance.  High end hardware no longer has to be loud.  Source some high quality fans! ^_^

So I build computers for friends and love EVGA for my personal computer I picked up a 780 reference from EVGA last year and LOVE it. now i'm looking to upgrade with two reference 970s. I loved EVGA because they seemed to be on their game with high quality cards and understanding what their customers want but now it seems like they don't understand that their customer base would want a nice looking substantial reference cooler and with the issues their custom coolers had with quality and alignment I feel like the lack of reference cooler is just them trying to take the cheap route out because this is a cheaper card. I would rather spend a premium on something that feels like it is quality then go with something that feels cheap and looks like a VHS tape. I just bought two reference 970s from best buy and will probably do business with companies that take their design and quality a little more seriously or stick with OEM cards from Best Buy.

^^^ This.

Some people want the cheapest ($$) version of a product that is possible but there are other that are totally willing to pay the extra for quality.  Noctua fans go for 2x other brands and look like a** with their tan color scheme but... people still buy them because they are the best.

We understand you (EVGA) have to cater to the current market, 14 year old's who are building their first system and those who just don't care about noise.  But there is also the Prosumer, educated Enthusiasts and People who know the extra $20 is worth it in the long run.

So I just received a reply from Jacob in a PM, when asked about an update on this subject:
EVGA_JacobF
It is still being worked on but unfortunately no real ETA if or when it will happen :( When I have some more info will surely let you know.

It doesnt seem to be a priority to them which is quiet sad.

Having switched over to SFF builds, i was really trying to hold out for this card, but my patience wore thin and I picked up the new SSC card. The Nvidia Titan cooled version was at my local BB but between that and EVGA's step-up, warranty, new features, etc. the SSC was the better deal. I hope they still do release this for those still waiting on it, but I wouldn't hold your breath since for some reason EVGA doesn't even allow a step-up to any Titan cooled 900 series card (unless I'm mistaken).
