My 256GB OCZ Vertex 4 that I picked up last year is filling up fast, so I am in need of something bigger (~500GB+). I'm currently out of the loop on SSD's so I'm looking to see what the forum feels are the "best buys" that I should be looking for deals on in the coming week. Looks like the new Samsung EVO (and its higher end brother) are good contenders, especially since even the 1Tb models seem to be priced relatively cheap. Any opinions on these vs getting last years models? And for that matter any other suggestions?

TIA!

I have been to looking for a drive larger than 500GB but have not seen any yet!
    Maybe Cyber Monday.
One other thing notices is the computer hardware on sale is mostly OLD, I have seen no DDR4 or X99 Hardware on sale anywhere.

Seems par from previous years. I literally had to leave the table on Thanksgiving evening to order the good stuff (before it sold out) last year! I think they (Newegg, TigerDirect, MC, etc...) just try to liquidate old stock in the days prior.

I've heard good things about the Samsung 840 EVO, although they did have an issue with reading "old" (>30 days since write) data, which would make me slightly nervous of them (rightly or wrongly). I haven't seen anything bad written about the 840 Pro, though, other than it's IO consistency.  The 850 Pro seems to be excellent, although a bit pricey.

Might be worth looking at the Crucial M550 (1TB) and M500 (960GB) models, or the MX100 (512GB)..?

Current PC: Intel Core i7 4790K, Noctua NH-U12S, Asus Z97-Pro, 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866Mhz RAM, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB, Crucial MX100 512GB, Western Digital Black 2TB, EVGA GTX 970 SC (blower), Pioneer BDR-209DBK, Fractal Design Define R4 + Noctua NF-A14 FLX fans, Corsair AX760 PSU, Dell U2713HM

I have this drive as my main OS drive in my X99 system.  The prices have dropped drastically since the release of the 850 pro.  Frankly...the speed difference between the two is only in QD32.

    Nice price

Not a bad deal I paid almost $400 for their 500GB SSD Drive two years ago.

If anyone cares, you can get it via TigerDirect's website (the 500GB 840 EVO) for 194.00 shipped, if you use PayPal. Its the same price, no matter how you pay at Newegg, however they charge tax here in California so TD was cheaper for me. Also comes with FarCry 4 for free. I ended up snagging one last night. I think the deal goes until midnight tonight or something.
