It's been awhile since reading through installation guides here @ EVGA . I'm having some issues with two new 980's that I had just installed for which they are producing PPD less than my old  GTX 8800's

Originally I was folding with a couple of Titans on FAH version 7.3.6 decided to purchase a couple of the 980 Classifieds due to my folding bucks had accumulated quite a bit. I then downloaded the newer version of FAH 7.4.4 and started with driver 344.75. After reading through the guides I'm not getting any results and am sitting here stumped .If someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate the help

    Passkey set up?

Leaving a CPU core for each of the 980s?

What's the core of the WU folding?

Passkey: installed my old passkey when setting up .

I have never done anything with cpu cores designated for the 980's . This was the same thing for my two Titans when they were folding also.

    Work units are:

    GPU#1:    WU 9201 (578, 4 , 31 ) 44.18% done  ETA 13 hours 03 minutes, credit 11847
    GPU#2:    WU 9201 (299, 3,  33 ) 44.99% done  ETA 13 hours 20 minutes , credit 11788

This is really weird figuring it should have been an easy install switching out the Titans to the 980's

Yea 9201 is a core17 and something is up if they are taking 13+ hours to finish, my gtx 980 can run those in under 4 hours even if I'm on the computer. Make sure the the card it clocking up to its rated clock speed and the the gpu usage is 70-80% or more.

Both cards are clocked up to 1468 MHZ

I also checked and they are only being worked at 50% for each GPU ??

I'm stumped with this there has to be something simple that I have missed

Do you have client-type = advanced for your GTX 980 per FAH

I didn't understand your post above. Please verify that you're not CPU folding.

I had a similar problem folding driver 344.65, folding at a reduced clock rate on my 780ti"s...went back to driver 344.48 and they're back up to speed

    I'm just GPU folding ..

    No SLI settings

I will attempt an older set of drivers to see if that corrects things "frustrated"

FWIW I'm on the 344.16 drivers and all is good on a single 970.
Try removing 1 card and see if the other improves.

If it's not the driver then it sounds like it might be trying to fold on the same card. Would need to delete and remake the slots/settings if so, which is highly recommended if you didn't wipe F@H's settings after updating and changing GPUs anyway.

WOW I can't believe this ....Still nothing has changed ??? Numerous changes with drivers nothing has helped. Switched to only having one GPU folding still nothing. Anymore suggestions ???

    You folding on the cpu?
make sure you leave a couple of threads for each gpu - Keplers and i assume maxwell will use approx 1 thread each to run
starving them will make them run slow

Are all of these results while running the same work unit, or have you deleted the work units and grabbed new one after changes such as drivers? It may also be a good time to completely re-install the FAH client. If the CPU is not in use and holding back the GPUs, then it sounds like a conflict in the client.

Additionally, is there anything unusual going on in the log? Finally, are the GPUs stable in stress tests, to rule out a failure there?

I've actually tried a couple of times with fresh installs without any results ...There was nothing showing in the log records "no errors"

What software should I use for the best stress test ??

The folding setting was set at full all of the time ..

What software should I use for the best stress test ??

You can use EVGA's OC scanner, MSI Kombuster, or whatever OCCT has. They all generally provide decent results. The ones tied to monitoring software are nice so you can see if you ever get over 50% during the stress tests.

Being new GPUs, can there be something in the BIOS setting holding up back?
The new AMD 290x with 2 on the board were having some problems.
I forget was it AMD or Nvidia had problems with 2 GPUs on the x58 boards
    Just some food for thought.
    What motherboard, chip-set and CPU?
Then take a look at the folding forum and see if there is any body having the same problem.
    Again, good luck.

This is also quite possible. There are mentions that the BIOS of the x58 should be updated to play nicely with newer cards. If you have not updated the BIOS lately, that may be a good thing to try. Alternatively, you can plug the 980 into another PC if you happen to have one around.

Edit: Saw this and this over at [H]. The problems aren't exactly the same, but the combination is very similar. This would be more likely the case if something fails during the stress test.

Update: I went into the bios and changed the "memory low gap" to its highest setting and my ppd jumped, and also the allotted time to completion on the WU dropped drastically ...I'm going to wait to see this current WU till its completed then will reinstall and update drivers

Oh and I didn't update the bios ...You think that I should still update the bios ???

    Fingers crossed that this works

    Reinstalled FAH to version 7.4.4

    Picked up to new WU's

You probably just need to let the 10471 settle out after a 1 or 2%. It should get to some better numbers. As for the 9201, that seem high. Maybe that too will settle out.

Well just want to say a gtx 980 with a nice overclock will actually pull around 300k pdd when left alone. Personal record for my 980 is 325k points in a day.

I'll update this thread when newer WU's are done

Looking at a possible new pc build myself for a newer 8 core cpu and another couple of the 980 classifieds

My current 980 Classifieds are folding at stock, not much experience in overclocking, is it worth some extra effort fine tuning the GPU's ???

10471 is a core-18 and it's official, they don't play well with Maxwell.
CPU-Z can give you the BIOS info you're looking for.
Glad you're getting it sorted, and pray to the folding gods for core-17 wu's

10471 is a core-18 and it's official, they don't play well with Maxwell.
CPU-Z can give you the BIOS info you're looking for.
