The reference 970 cooler looks great, but the ACX 2.0 is still very nice IMO. I wish I could have got one of those freebie backplates though.

All said, nothing beats the aesthetics of water blocked GPUs. I don't think I'll ever have another sleek and sexy card like my single-slot HC2 580s.

Got out of work and rushed to My Local Best Buy, didn't have any instock, video card selection was god awful.  Asked the associate to do sku search and there happens to be a BB within 30 miles with 1 instock.  Figure what the hell, drove there in a semi-blizzard weather. Card was on the shelf, No sticker or any price label.  Retail price scanned @ $379.99 (if anyone is wondering), got customer service to price match newegg to $353.  All in all 3rd party cooler is a turn off me (with a few exception ex. Asus),  the cheapness feel and look and thin plastic shroud. Aesthetically I always perfer reference design.

This card will replace my 6970 crossfire, WOOT!

Last time I asked associate to do sku search and then she did it on bestbuy.com on her pad. As I expected it said

Oops!We couldn't find anything matching your search for XXXXXXX

Where do they do sku search in your experience?  Is that a different system other than bestbuy.com?I think last time the associate did something wrong, the result should not be 'Oops!' thing.

My store had them in stock so I didn't have to give them the sku but when he scanned it to check the other stores stock it definitely wasn't bestbuy.com

They did the same thing to me, www.bestbuy.com  won't work, because item isn't listed on there website yet.  Just ask them if they have a another system to look up sku for other stores. Its an Older UI system.

I reached page 16 and i had enough of a particular user, if it's too difficult to understand that someone wants a titan cooler on a 970 pcb then there is a problem. You can call it reference, you can call it Donal Duck, you can call it Obama but the CORE stays the same: someone wants that damn titan cooler on 970s. Now if we want to act as children trying to have the last word or if we want to act as grown men it's up to you specific user that destroyed my reading pf this thread, just do it away from here because if it was for me i would had kicked your sorry account many pages ago. I repeat: the CORE of this thread has nothong to do with the word "reference". Anyway for me this thread is lost, i will never read more of these shenanigans and i am sorry because it was interesting for me.

EDIT: i am reading from a mobile device, do you have any idea how painful it is to read 16 pages of "there is no reference"???

yet that "particular user" had not posted in days and everyone moved on. quite ironic of you...

most of my comments were to people calling it a Titan cooler or calling it the 970 reference cooler when its actually neither. then some just changed their wording to reference 970 card which of course there is no such thing that can be bought as no card maker is making it for consumer and Nvidia made no such thing. if you cant deal with that then that is your problem. feel free to get the last word as I sit this out again for a couple days.

and as I have already mentioned I am all for the 980 cooler being an option on the 970.

Where are you trek554, you said "reference 970 card which of course there is no such thing that can be bought as no card maker is making it for consumer and Nvidia made no such thing."

Glad to hear of another report that they found one. I'm going back tomorrow to check the aisles more after what Velren said. I'm not going to be walking out of there with 3 cards, but I am certain I will walk out of there with a receipt for 3!

I would be fine with the ACX cooler if I trusted they would stack 3 high on air at resonable temps.. which I don't. It's likely to be another year before I have collected a new MB/CPU/RAM, 3 waterblocks and everything else in betweem after buying 3 970's so I'll need them to suffice on their own for a bit.

Yep, while mine are not wate rcooled I will certainly feel nostailgia for my SLI EVGA GTX 580 SCs.. Seriously though... after basically 4+ years I'm running Farcry 4 @ 1920x1080 on ultra (-MB -AA) at close enough to 60FPS all the time and the same settings with 3 monitors @ 5760x1080 I've limited to 30fps and it mostly stays there.. Ill accept potatobox frame rates @ 5760x1080 on these old cards. Seriously can't wait to get my hands on 3 970's. With my new surround setup I can't even play games on a single monitor anymore, it's like having tunnel vision. I've put FC4 and a host of other awesome looking games from the last year on a back burner until I can play them @ 60fp and @ 5760x1080 in all their glory. i'm stepping up to the new "affordable" vid cards every year-ish club I think. Great times.

EDIT* Pushing my 580's at 1.115 volts, 925mhz core, 4250Mhz mem. Not an issue with a custom fan profile in MSI afterburner for years. I'm mostly a Linux user so I've devised a script to implement my own Fan profiles since Nvidias tools don't do it. Been no problem so far.

Here we go!!! OCUK finally jumped on this, and did exactly what we were hoping. Give this article a good read, because they've made some important changes! The GTX 970 on the 980 board, with 980 reference cooler! Here's the article talking about it:
http://www.loadthegame.com/2014/11/13/coil-whine-free-reference-cooled-geforce-gtx-970-cards-now-available/

And here's the actually webpage where OCUK sells it:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-205-OK

They've stated that it is a WORLDWIDE exclusive. It unfortunately is coming in at a MUCH higher premium than we'd hoped... probably because of the upgraded components AND the fact that they're on a 980 board now.  Darn it. So I'm personally going to continue waiting, because I think EVGA will pull through with a similar offering, but most likely at a cheaper price. But just in case anyone would like to jump on it, ITS HERE! :D

Gibbo's stated that it's at a higher price point because the Nvidia cooler's are expensive.

Just an update here, we are working to bring a reference cooler version to market, no promises yet as we are still in early stages though, so please stay tuned.

Yeah, this was posted a couple pages back. I've been turned off by the terrible customer reviews though. For some reason this forum doesn't allow me to post links but search for 'resellerratings.com' and overclockers.co.uk and you'll find a rating of 1.3/10 from 100+ reviews, including users having issues with shipped GPUs.

I'm really glad to hear that.

Also, I was able to pick up one of the Nvidia cards at the Va Beach Landstown Commons Best Buy yesterday.  They had one 980 ($599) also.  The guy checked for me and said there was one more 970 available at the Independence location.  Unfortunately, the Nvidia cards don't appear to be eligible for the Nvidia Pick your Path promo.  So while I was willing to pay a premium for the card, I'll probably take it back since no promo code is like a double kick in the wallet.

How did you discover that the Nvidia card is not eligible for the Nvidia Pick your Path promo?

Best Buy is not listed as an authorized partner on the Pick your path promo page and I read a few posts elsewhere where people said Nvidia told them no.  I did, however, also just read where someone wrote tehy did get a promo code by being persistent.  I've asked for more info.

So I went back to Best Buy today and looked where someone here said to look and sure enough they had 2! I picked them up and ordered a 3rd @ $353 each. They also had 2 980s on the shelf. Fairly impressed so far with just the 2, can't wait for the 3rd to get here Tuesday-Wednesday. I'll post a pic once I have all 3 stuffed in there ;)

Saw some online reports of these reference 970s being available at BB and had to check for myself given I had like $150 worth of rewards and GCs at BB to use, so I figured I'd take a look having the day off...

Picked it up for the wife since I already have the EVGA 980 SC.  This was the only one on the shelf and it was sitting sideways wedged in with some 770 (also Titan cooler) and 760s.  Love the Titan/NVTTM cooler, its truly amazing.  So much quieter than the past blower models and just oozes quality in every way imaginable.  The box is also massive, like 50% deeper than the EVGA box and carrying the thing you feel the heft/quality of it.  It also comes with a REALLY cool brushed aluminum GeForce GTX logo (the square one) with embossed/debossed lines.

If EVGA had these on Day 1, I would have gotten 3 of them (2 for me, 1 for wife).  Amazing cards, good luck finding them!

Oh yea. The packaging.. The cards with the awesome coolers and back plates just look and feel like top notch. Super glad nvidia is offering them at bb. Whoever the guy who kept screaming reference 970s don't exist.. Here they are... Don't think u can get anymore reference than an nvidia branded 970.

2 of them are doing just fine with farcry 4 on ultra settings @ 5760x1080.. -mb cuz I hate it anyways. 3 should be good times.

EDIT* oh yeah.. No coil wine at all.

Sure it is 9855169 but it may not show up in their PoS system yet.  It looks like they were just shipped a few at a time by their distributors D&H as there's a big barcode from D&H on each.  From what I've read people have been seeing 1-3 max on shelves depending on how many each location was allocated.

Price match to Newegg?

Also, I tried to get a code via Nvidia support chat and kept getting the same answer, "I am sorry there is nothing we can do about the game code as we do not provide the game codes from our end."

Yep. The girl just went to newegg and typed in gtx 970 and was going to give it to me for the price of the first one that popped up(349.99) which wasn't it.. I should have just let her do it but I was honest and showed her the one linked here on my phone which was 353.

As for the game codes I have not tried to hit up support yet, but I think it is pretty BS if they don't do something. I bought 3 cards, I want all 3 games lol.

If you have any luck, please report back.  I'll do the same.

With the way demand is you could probably get full price you paid on craigslist.
