That really stinks!  Think about reinstalling your OS fresh and having to download all your Origin, Steam and Uplay apps alone...gonna really cost.  If this goes down, I can see other ISP doing the same thing.  Pandora's box!!!

That's nothing new, per se; ATT does the same thing on Uverse and has for a couple of years at 300GB/month.

    Yeah, this is completely realistic:

In this trial, XFINITY Internet Economy Plus customers can choose to enroll in the Flexible-Data Option to receive a $5.00 credit on their monthly bill and reduce their data usage plan from 300 GB to 5 GB. If customers choose this option and use more than 5 GB of data in any given month, they will not receive the $5.00 credit and will be charged an additional $1.00 for each gigabyte of data used over the 5 GB included in the Flexible-Data Option.

Sounds more like predatory pricing to turn a larger profit off of overage fees. Time Warner attempted to do this pricing model already a few years ago.

Someone please beat the crap out of tom wheeler and the likes until they do their damn job.
This is clearly unacceptable. These isp's should focus on building their network so the can delivery what we are already paying for all the time....

Its never enough for these guys, always thinking of new ways line their pockets...They enjoy tax breaks from irs. Refuse to invest money on their network, lobbying and blatantly anticompetitive behavior to prevent any real alternative.

Sad thing is I've actually seen people arguing AGAINST net neutrality.

If this type of thing goes through, we're hosed.

There is only one way for people to protect themselves...with their wallets!!!  I hope there is enough serious backlash that it goes away.  Right now, Comcast is testing this out in Nashville (where my son lives).  They are really watching their internet use, etc.  Ridiculous.  Seems like you live every day looking over your shoulder.  Guess this is gonna happen when the former CEO of Comcast becomes FCC chairman.

This sucks as most people don't really have any other ISP choice thanks to comcast monopoly.

I'm in the Nashville, TN, area, and I have to choose between AT&T (max 5 Mbps or something) and Comcast. So I have Comcast, one of their mid-range "Blast!" tiers, at 30 down / 10 up. Looking over my data usage on my DD-WRT router, I see that I average between 200-300 GB per month combined up/down.

I don't use torrents or download movies from illegal sites. My main data usages are Netflix and Steam. I haven't gotten any additional charges yet, but if I do....

Notice that Comcast isn't trying out this "wonderful new flexible option" in Chattanooga, TN.

That's right, GIGABIT speeds upstream and downstream for the price I pay for 50 Mbps with limited data in Nashville.

Now if only AT&T, Time Warner, and Comcast didn't throw so much muscle against communities wanting to build up their own networks...

I'd use a whole lot of expletives here if I was allowed. We have 2 choices here; Comcast cable, or Verizon DSL. That's it. DSL is clearly a joke. I am in Brooklyn, NY - not exactly an 'out of the way' area, but Comcast have bought everyone else out. If these greedy mothers bring in caps on home usage, that is the end of the internet and any real value it provides - not only Netflix streaming, Amazon Fire box, entertainment etc., but vital communications, security networking, and far more importantly EDUCATIONAL use. I hope like hell we get a President with balls that aren't tied to these monopolies, and he or she grabs these greedy mothers by the neck and slaps them silly, then nationalize the industry and make it free for everyone, and these CEOs can be thrown in jail on whatever charges they can stick on them... or better yet, force them to be government employees on government salaries and continue to manage the networks.

This is their way of saying "screw you" to the backlash on their attempts to kill net neutrality. EVIL. The internet has changed the world, and advanced in it so many ways, and they want to tear it down in order to line their pockets - literally billions of people effected for the benefit of a small handful. I hope they burn in hell.

You'll notice if you read the terms and conditions that Comcast has graciously excluded their own "On-Demand" service from the data caps. This pushes the user to use On Demand instead of Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon, therefore trapping you further in the Comcast ecosystem. You also watch commercials during On Demand, therefore generating more ad revenue for Comcast.

And if one wants a President who will stand up to corporations, then one shouldn't be voting for a Republican.

Can they make it any more obvious that they have absolutely ZERO ethics? They have a monopoly so they just don't give a crap how bad and how greedy they look. It's as simple as that - they simply do not give a crap, because they know we have no options, and we pay just under $200/month for this bs (cable tv, phone, internet). Why aren't the government enforcing anti-trust laws? Oh right, lobbyist money.

Damn.. we don't even watch tv any more because it is so insanely full of advertising... and on discussion with my Mrs., we may dump the cable tv part of our package and just stick with internet and phone only (Netflix & Amazon Fire TV is plenty, internet for the rest). Maybe just use our cellphones only and dump the landline phone too.. would be awesome not to have to put up with those credit card interest rate reduction phone calls... seriously we have been getting those calls pretty much daily or at least every second day for maybe 8-10 years now, and that is NOT an exaggeration, I have screamed at them so many times, but they don't stop. If I ever meet one of those 'people'...  grrrr.

Comcast is trying to protect it's dying cable tv service with data caps. If they tried that here. we would cut the cord on cable tv and let them know why we did it. People need to demand action from city council.

City Council can withhold permits, and they certainly do have influence, but likely they have already been paid off at higher levels (read: Governor / Senator campaign 'donations') to let these corporate prats do whatever the hell they want.

When a franchise is up for renewal. the city council should hold a public hearing allowing residents to voice any concerns. If enough residents are unhappy with a franchise performance. the council could vote to deny the renewal. You would need a ton of people to speak out about the franchise not meeting the needs of the community before they would ever think about denying a renewal.

With only One Cable Company to pick from what choice is their. None
I spoke last year why we cannot get a different Cable Company and they said simple ComCast took over the only other two companies left in our City. We have a Choice of ComCast, Direct TV, and Dish. Forgot to add ComCast owns the cable.
For the most part why I dumped TV altogether.
I have DSL for Internet, at least it is Fiber.

ComcastWhy are you making this change?

As the marketplace and technology change, we do too. We evaluate customer data usage, and a variety of other factors, and make adjustments accordingly. Over the last several years, we have periodically reviewed various plans, and recently we have been analyzing the market and our process through various data usage plan trials.

This is the most political non-answer ever.

The real answer : "We're positioning ourselves to make tons of money off of you when inevitably our cable business dies and you are streaming all of your entertainment online.  By instituting a cap now, we can arbitrarily lower the cap later to offset lost revenue from disconnected cable subscribers."
