I love their SSDs! They are the best SSDs IMHO. Yes I know its not the fastest where its not too behind from Samsung's drives BUT it is the best SSD for reliability. I know my Intel 520 series 240GB SSD used to be the raining champ back in 2012 and early 2013.

Would these be much better than Samsung's 850 pros with 3D Nand?

Intel's 3D NAND is 256Gb versus Samsung's 86Gb, so there's a huge advantage for Intel capacity wise. They could offer much more attractive prices if they wanted because of it. No word of performance yet so will have to see how that plays out.

No way this is going to be cheap.

I expect is to be 50% more expensive than traditional MLC at the same capacity.

Nah, the entire point is to made it cheap to fab the NAND. Intel will be fabbing its 3D NAND on a ~30nm node to avoid the extra masking & production costs of lower nodes. Samsung will reportedly be shipping it's 2nd gen 3D NAND by the time Intel's stuff comes out. You can expect SSD costs per GB to continue to drop, 3D NAND is just a new way to drop manufacturing costs without node shrinks.
