Current system specs
GPU: GTX 680
CPU: Core i7-4770K @ 3.5 GHz
32 GB RAM
Win 7 64 Bit
Native Resolution 2560x1600

I'm currently considering the GTX 780, 970, and 980, but I'm open to other suggestions as well. I'm looking for a single card setup (air cooled) and I would like to keep the price relatively low (no more than ~500-600) which doesn't appear to be too much of an issue. I would like to stay with Nvidia products (preferably EVGA) and don't plan on overclocking because of heat.

I want to be able to maintain at least 60fps when things get intense in both current and future games at my native resolution. I will be playing games like ArmA, Metro, AC Unity, Witcher 2-3, and FarCry, and I have been maxing out at ~45-50fps in some of these on low-medium settings if I'm lucky. Thanks.

970. Gets you most of the way to a 980 at half the cost, and it scales super well in SLI... in fact from what I see, people are realizing upwards of 80% performance seen from SLI 980s.

If it helps, I was able to run FC4 without issue on a single 970... and it came for free with the card, lol. Then again Ive since put a second one in there... you should see how badly it shames a Titan.

In fact if you can raise your $600 max budget just a smidgen...

Since you want a Single Card Solution and will be playing @ 2560X1600 than I would have to say 980 All The Way.

Good point about the single card solution aspect. Maybe I was reading too much into the "I'm open other suggestions" portion of the OP. That said, is there any time frame on an "unlocked" Ti version (or similar)?

I appreciate the offer but I always prefer to buy new, and it seems like I would be better off with the 970 or 980 anyway.  Thanks anyway though!

Looks like the 980 might be the way to go if I'm able.  I have been looking at the 980 and the ACX 2.0 counterpart, but since they appear to be the same exact card, why is the one with the better cooling cheaper?  Also, the differences between the 970 and 980 don't appear to be very large for the price difference.  How big of a difference does that extra 75MHz and 35GT/s fill rate make?
