I am now going to work for Whataburger. They are starting an architecture department(they use to outsource all architecture work) and I will be responsible for designing a new prototype store, a new flagship store and making interior design changes to existing stores.

That is going to be a great challenge. Best of luck and when time permits post back with final designs once they are releasable by the company.

Ahh you lucky bugger! My mother was into interior design for many years and on the committee of a national interior design guild (overseas, not US). I always wanted to be an architect and spent thousands of hours as a kid designing houses and buildings just using technical drawing skills and building scale models mostly with popsicle sticks lol, and later with whatever software was available and relatively cheap, however it was the Dean of the NY Institute of Technology Architecture School who basically talked me out of it years ago - told me most students have to do minimum masters degree and then 7 more years to get a license, and many of them still can't get jobs, or if they did, it was low pay, unless they had connections in the industry already. He basically said if I really wanted to go through with it, I either had to totally love it and not have a need to depend on it for money/survival, or else have family in the business, otherwise I'd spend most of my time just moving walls around on existing plans and nothing challenging or be able to use much creativity and be on low pay. I had to weigh up what I needed to do to survive, so I instead completed a couple of degrees in accounting and finance since that was what was in demand in NYC. I've got a secure job in that field, but I'll always regret not following my passion. I am envious of you, but I wish you well.
