780ti sc acx odd issue with booting

After at least a year of flawless operation, my PC will not boot past the windows logo/start up screen unless Im in safe mode. It just freezes and I have to hard shut down.
 
I figured corrupt files so I reformatted a fresh install of win7........all appeared fine until I installed the lastest NVidia drivers....then poof, it does the same thing.
I cant understand why it boots up fine without the NVidia drivers installed but locks up at the start up screen with them installed?
Ive never tweaked the card and there is plenty of cooling in my case.......no changes to bio's etc....this just started for no apparent reason.
 
Help appreciated!
Asus p8z68-v LX
 i72600k 3.4
800 watt psu

    Sounds like the card has a problem. Time to test it in another machine.

    Card is at fault.......sent in for RMA.  I'm glad I went with EVGA, the tech support is great!

    Just installed the RMA card I received from EVGA. No problems at all! Install and start up - no flaws :)
