System in sig.  I'm wanting to get another GTX770sc for SLI.  Is my sytem outdated as far as getting the most out of the SLI investment?  I can't seem to find any ram kits of 12 gigs that will work, my CPU is outdated, and my mobo doesn't support all the newest speed technologies...

thanks for any suggestions...

LOL...  No...  that 980X is a little dated, but I think it should be more than adequate for SLI 770's...  That's still a very powerful system. It would be nice to double your RAM. Keep looking for 12 gigs.  Have fun.

hahaa  OK...  I got the 770 from a friend at a "steal" of a price, which prompted the question...
I HAD a 560ti, since throwing the 770 in, I've been gaming at MUCH  higher settings which is nice.
I've got 980x clocked at 4 gigs on liquid, I'll keep searching for compatible ram, and move forward with the SLI..
Thanks for your reply Zildjian..  Although all my cymbals are PAISTE....  :)

    Paiste's are great too!!

That 980x has plenty of life left. W the 900 series out, now would be a great time to grab another 770.

    I am running two 770s.
When I don't run SLI, the difference is noticeable - so go for it!
Just remember to consider your PSU limitations, sli bridge options and space in the case.

I basically never have problems with any game.

I am however dealing with problems unique to Ubisoft games, everything else runs buttery smooth.

I just came from an i7 930 @ 4.2, 12gb 1600 RAM and 2 780 Ti Classifieds. to an X99 (Asus Rampage V Extreme, i7 5960X @ 4.4, 16gb RAM) and I can tell you flat out, that you'll be fine going to SLI or a GPU upgrade. I got 2 780 Ti Classifieds before I decided to upgrade the whole system, and that was upgrading from 2 evga GTX 460 EE Superclocked cards. The GPU upgrade made a world difference. My 3DMark score for my X99 was just slightly higher over my i7 930 (both with the 780 Ti Classifieds). The main reason I upgraded was because my Gigabyte UD3R wasn't really SATA3. They flat out lied in their advertising, so my SSDs were running about 66% of their potential (now I have an M.2 drive. SATA3 can burn!) Plus it meant breaking away from the PCI lane limits (which might be why I got the slightly score on my X99). My 930 system is now in my livingroom hooked up to the TV. So yeah, go for SLI.

Unless you really just want to have the fastest SSD speeds or go with M.2, I see absolutely no reason to upgrade that i7 980X system. SLI probably do the trick. It'd say between my 460s and 780s, I see about 75% to double the fps in fps from games that support it (which makes it a great investment). In some cases you'll have to turn the SLI off as it can break some games from even working. Don't know why you can't find any RAM kits though. Even 12GB would be better than 6gb. I have 12gb of Corsair XMS3 1600 ram in that system, and that's more than it ever needed.

    FIXED!

I finally found a 3x4..12 gig kit of ballistix tracers that work perfectly! Thanks all for the input, as I will be moving forward with gtx770 sli config. As for my psu, it's a 1000 watt Thermaltake tough power. ..has plenty of required power and connections for sli. While Im on a roll here, I can't seem to find my original p6td sli bridge. I did manage to find my old 3 way evga ftw bridge. Is that safe to use?

(based on the pics I just googled) Yeah, you can. It has 2 SLI connections on the card (ie, they support 3~4 cards, unlike my GTX 460s that limited to 2 max). I use the 3x SLI bridge for my 2 780 Ti cards. Just a matter of spacing for it to work. If it fits though, you're good!
