My story is rather silly on "why" I updated my rig. My previous 2 year old rig was a i7 2600k, ASUS MIVE, 8gigs ram, and SLI'd EVGA GTX 580 HC2's.

One day I turned on my computer, and the fans turned on, but the mobo seemed like it was dead. I didn't even get any post codes. I was hoping it was just my power supply, so I bought a AX1200i. I wanted to replace my AX1200 since it had a really bad coil whine... and this gave me an excuse to buy a replacement. After I got my AX1200i in the mail, I went to pull out my cables from the old PSU, and I felt a loose cable. I looked at the cable, and it happened to be the CPU cable. Duh... makes sense. I bought a new PSU for nothing.

Since I had the new PSU, I started looking at all the current parts (haswell, GPU's, etc), and IB-e was around the corner. That's when I decided to update my rig. I looked at my current rig, and started to think of what I could reuse... so I keep the update simple and not spend too much. As I started reading forums... and looking at current build threads and mods rigs, my simple update got more expensive.

I started looking at things I hated from my current build. First thing I wanted to get rid of was my bay reservoir. I hated how hard it was to fill and bleed... and never liked how all the water tubing went to the front of the case. Next thing I wanted to change was tubing... and I was amazed with all the new acrylic tubing builds.. and how sexy they looked. This really got expensive since I had to scrap $300 worth of soft tubing compression fittings... and buy all new acrylic compression fittings, straight/angled adapters.  Since I was changing my loop, I wanted get all new blocks, dual D5 pump top, and tube reservoir.  I spent a total of $1482 just on water-cooling parts alone.   I spent more than I wanted initially.

Anyhow... this is what I came up with for my update...

Specs:
Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D (reused)
CPU: Hexacore i7 4930K
Mobo: Initially bought the EVGA Dark, but now running the X79 Asus Rampage IV Black Edition
Graphics Cards: 3 x EVGA GTX 780 SC in Tri-SLI
Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR3 2133MHz 1.5v
Storage:
- Crucial M4 128GB SATA 6Gb/s SSD (reused)
- Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SATA III SSD
- WD Cavier black 2TB (reused)
Optical: LG CD/BD/DVD drive (reused)
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
Case Fans: 4 x 120mm Gentle Typhoon AP-15

Watercooling:
Radiators:
- 1 x XSPC RX360 push/pull top with a Koolance 350 shroud
- 1 x Swiftech MRC220 push/pull bottom
- 1 x EK 120 rad
Radiator Fans: 11 x Gentle Typhoon 120mm AP-15 (reused 10x)
Reservoir: EK-MultiOption RES X3 250 - Tube
Pumps: 2 x Koolance PMP-450 (aka D5 variable speed pumps)
EK D5 Dual CSQ Pump Top - Acetal - Black
Tubing: Primochill Black Acrylic
CPU Block: Supremacy Clean CSO c/p
GPU Blocks: 3 x EK-FC GTX Titan/780 c/p + Back Plates
Fittings:
- 20 x Primochill Revolver Black Acrylic Compression Fittings
- Bitspower elbows (various)
- 4 x Bitspower Adjustable Aqua Link Pipe (GPU's in parallel)
Fan Controller: 2 x Scythe Kaze Master Pro (reused)

Now the pictures of my updated rig:

Born on New Years Day!!!

I'm really happy with the final results, and it runs like a dream.   Going with a tube res with a dual D5 pump top made filling it water and bleeding so much easier.  Other things I did was make easier to drain, and get to the radiators for maintenance.   That's one thing I neglected on my previous rig.   Now that I made it easier... I will keep up with my periodic water changes and dusting.

Hope you were able to tolerate my little story, and thanks for creating this forum to share my rig.

Thanks everyone... I appreciate it. I liked the black with white tubing also... but when I got the RIV BE, I had to go with black acrylic tubing.

@doorules - It's been solid for me so far. It will be interesting how BIOS updates will be now that Shamino is gone. I have a decent chip... but definitely not golden. I'm currently sticking with 4.5GHz because I prefer my vcore in the 1.2x range... 1.267v at fixed manual. I might drop my clocks down for my everyday setup... since I seen my last electric bill... LOL. I changed to offset voltage recently to see if it makes a difference. Other than that... very happy with the board... very stable, and very sexy.

+1 on your rig... very nice!

I was going to add a GT AP-15 to my rear rad for push/pull, but I didn't want it to stick out too much. Plus, 15 GT AP-15's are enough for this small case. Looks great your rig though.

I still haven't pushed my GPU's yet. I just wanted to link something there in Mods Rig. I just figured out the valid URL for FS last night... LOL...

Nice clean looking build.  Hope this is not a noob question, but any particular reason you went with 3 different brands of radiator?  Also, what LEDs did you use in your waterblocks?  Did you use sleeved extensions on your PSU or are those fully sleeved cables?  How was your experience with bending the acrylic tubes?

    Thanks!

2 years ago, when I did my first case mod on this 800D, the XSPC RX360 was the popular rad at the time... so I used that at the top.   I wanted to go with push/pull on all my rads, so for the bottom compartment rad, I had to find something thin.  The swiftech fit perfectly...

I sleeved my cables on my previous build, but since I have a 2x120 rad on the bottom, and right above it is my EK Dual D5 pump top, I needed room to get my hands in there to adjust the adjust the variable pumps.   The best solution for me was going with the stock corsair module cables... because of my previous build, my sleeving took a lot of room below, which made it difficult for me to install tubing and plug in cables.   Therefore, I went with sleeved extenstions.

This gave me plenty of room to get my hands underneath to adjust my pumps... which is very helpful when it comes to bleeding the loop.

The LED's I used on my EK plexi water blocks are from Amazon...  Search for "Qty 10- LED Lights- 3mm pre wired 12 volt leds"   They are sold by Boesch Built.   I went with these because they are prewired with resisters to handle 12 volts.   Plus the price was great.  $5.99 for 10.

I soldered them together and sleeved them so the wires are hidden in my build...

As for bending the acrylic, it depends on person to person.   I've read where people used more than 20 feet of acrylic tubing... and still had to buy more to finsh their loop.   I took my time with it... and didn't waste very much.  It can be difficult for some and easy for others.    I was patient with it, and I made some mistakes... but in the end, it was worth it.    I love how the tubing looks clean and not crowded like my previous build.

To give you an idea...  I bought 10 feet of black acrylic, and I didn't have any spare left... so you will waste a lot.

    Here is my entire loop...

This is what's left of the 10 feet of tubing...

I don't mind answering questions, so please ask away.   Hope this helps...

FCPU sells a bending kit that comes with a silicone tube and cotton gloves.   You will also need a heatgun.   You insert the silicone tube into the acrylic tubing so when you bend it, it doesn't kink.   There is a YouTube video by Primochill on the basics of bending acrylic tubing.   For my acrylic tubing, I bent my acrylic free-hand over the heatgun with the cotton gloves on... and bent it very slowly make sure it doesn't kink... and have the correct radius to connect to both compression fittings.    It will be a lot easier to bend with the monsoon mandrels... which you can buy from FCPU or performance pcs.   I would have bought the monsoon acrylic bending kit... but it wasn't available when I was making my loop.

Very nice... My only pointer is to maybe buy extra tubing to practice, plan your loop well, take your time, and don't give up.   After you complete your acrylic loop, it will be worth the effort... and you will see the benefits of acrylic tubing... especially when you do your maintenance.    I've seen a few give people give up because it can be frustrating.

Thanks for the thorough response, very helpful!

sorry for bumping an old thread, but man this is pretty awesome!
the 800d feels like a big case until you start putting things into it :)

can i ask for some more pics? close ups of the pumps and how you got them laid out.

also what size tubing and fittings did you use?

    Thanks man.

Looks very nice and clean. I just changed to PETG tubing but the runs are so long and ended up a bit sloppy in my Mountain Mods case I didn't post the pics.I'll be changing to a Caselabs Magnum TH10 for my rebuild and there will be plenty of pics and video. I personally used the Monsoon bending kit and it worked awesome!

A little update.  Mainly wanted to post how awesome EVGA Customer Service support was with my issue.  THANK YOU EVGA!!!!!

With the talk of Windows 10 coming out, and playing with the Win10 beta version at work, I went ahead and updated to Windows 8.0/8.1.   However when I got to Windows 8.1 - Update 1 (KB2919355), it would BSOD with the following error:
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (nvlddmkm.sys)

I opened a ticket with EVGA (best support ever), and they first responded to not install KB2919355.  I said that isn't a resolution since I can't do any further 8.1 updates without installing it.   Finally, they gave me some things to try.  Basically they had me test one GPU at a time.

Card #1 and I was able to install KB2919355.
Card #2 was able to boot into windows with no issues.
Card #3, intermittent reboot.  Sometimes it boots into Windows, but most of the time it boots with the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (nvlddmkm.sys)" error.

Conclusion:  Card #3 is bad... or does not work with Windows 8.1.   No issues with Windows 7 or 8.

I responded to my ticket with my test and conclusion, and I got a response that they already started the RMA process.  Wow!!!!

This was perfect timing since I needed to drain my system and clean out dust from my radiators and case.   Got my replacement card within a week and I put it all back together... Looked good as new with clean radiators and dust free.

Turned in on... and booted to Windows 8.1 with Update 1  (KB2919355) installed with no issues.

Sorry for upping my old thread... but just had to say thanks to EVGA support for best help and painless RMA process.  Thank you so much!!!!

Nice rig and storyline. Was there any issue with getting the acrylic tubing to seal? Did the inner diameter deform when bending?
