Hi guys,
I am desperate now because I can not install WIN7 on my new built workstation :(
An instalation freezes at some point.
I bought SR-2 (not new of course but it wasnt used). Is it possible that my MB is damaged?
It looks perfectly fine but the instalation freezes at the very beginning of the instalation process.
Please send some tips how to solve this problem or how to check if MB is not broken.
My rig specs:
CPU: single xeon x5670 (I will have dual soon)
SR-2
3 x 4 GB RAM DDR3 (corsair vegeance 1833Mgz)
GPU: Geforerce 560ti
ssd intel 530 mlc, 240 GB
water cooling: corsair h100i
PSU: corsir RM850

You didn't mention the hard drive or SSD you are using. Is it new?

At what point does the installer freeze? If it freezes as its attempting to read the hard drives to see where it can install, this can indicate a potential issue with the SATA ports, cables, or drives. I would suggest moving the SATA cable to another port, or trying a different SATA cable altogether. You may also consider trying the drive on a different controller (ie if its in the red ports, try one of the black ports). Also, if you're attempting to install from a USB stick, consider trying to burn the image to a DVD drive and installing from there.

in bios: sata configuration: sata#1 (compatible) configure sata#1 as (IDE) sata#2 (enhanced ) ------------------- mount ssd sata cable to black ide 0-5 mount dvd on black ide 0-5. Install from dvd. i use a Intel 330 ssd with win7 and this works for me.

Scarlet-Tech: yes the SSD is new.
Evga Tech_JamesR: it looks that SATA ports are OK. check out my description below with history.
Robbanswe: this is exactly the settings that I already have in BIOS
So here the story so far:
1. Tried to run WIN7 from DVDrom but it freezes at the very beginning - when Windows logo appears.
2. Then I took the SSD from SR-2 and pluged it in my old PC
3. I "pre-install" WIN7 using old PC - by that I mean tha I started windows isntallation and stoped just after first reboot
4. I took the SSD (with the "preinstalled" files) and plug it back to SR-2
5. Trying to install WIN7 now, but it freezes at this point:
It's been already an hour with this screen. No changes noticed.
And this is my rig:
Any idea what I can do now?

Try to install on a 3,5 HD.

i did have a simulare problem.
make sure thad your cooling have a good fit."not to hard"
make sure your bord don't make contakt whit the case

Hi guys,
Answering yuor questions:
1. Yes I tried instaled on 3.5.
2. My rig i out of the case right now. Just relaxed the cooling srews.
Nothing has changed.
What elese I did:
1. tried to install windows booting from:
a) DVd connected to USB port
b) DVD connected to SATA port
c) SSD connected via SATA (whole instalation files copied to SSD)
d) SSD connected via SATA (using the "preinstalation method on older PC" that
I described in previous post)
2. I replaced CPU
3. replaced RAM and switched betweend slots (all sticks working on other machines)
4. Rplaced GPU (both working on other PCs)
5. I tested PSU on other PC. It perfectly fine.
6. I found weird tip from intel. THey advise to plug in LAN wire. I did this.
7. I tried to boot windows using 2 different CDs
Do you think I can tried out something else?
I need to decide soon if I should turn the MB back.

one of my SR2,,, never boot windows with original settings.
i must use my own bios settings for install/winboot
Maby the memory and some other settings is wrong ?
tweek the bios settings.

I would install ubuntu linux from disk just to prove there is no motherboard fault, or at the very least it may tell you what the fault is compared to the info windows gives you. Then if successful wipe the linux and install windows.

It is working now!!
We installed Free DOS ... just to isntall BIOS update :)
And then we could finally install Windows! :)
I have just one single processor (x5670) but it is already OC to: 4,07Ghz.
Working perfectly fine with 6x8GB Ram (1600 Mhz Corsair Vegeance) !! :)
