67C is pretty high, I classify <40c to be an idle temp.  67 = 40-60% load.
I'm not surprised you added this feature, as Asus already had. This cards low wattage hardly requires a fan at all, I expect to see some brand in the near future putting out a passively cooled card. I think you guys realized that when you only had 1 and a half heat pipes touching the GPU.

Both of the heatpipes that were designed to touch the GPU do so and this is the same cooler as the 760 ACX had. You have been reading too much internet misinformation.

Even the 60w 750ti has no passive design. There won't be a passive 970.

You are correct that 0db should have been a feature all along. Marketing messed up there.

There has been 150 watt rated passive coolers before, it tends to trend. Why would a GPU heatsink have 3 heatpipes if only 2 were suppose to touch? Copper is getting pretty expensive, especially to do something stupid like that.

I  wish I could afford a 970

Its cheap if you are reusing an old design that you have already tooled up for. The third, smaller heatpipe draws heat away from the main base and EVGA has shown this to be effective in the 760. At $3 a pound, copper is relatively cheap.

The 150W passive coolers need case airflow so really semi-passive. SPCR see the top for passives at 100W but the need for fully passive is falling away as innovations like lower TDP's and 0db on idle are making themselves widespread.

Hi,
New to the forum...
I have done the firmware update (I think), but my fans continue to run all the time. 04G-P4-0974-KR
How do you check if the firmware update was successful?
Where / how do you get you see the firmware version that your card is using?

I also downloaded the EVGA Precision Software, and set up a custom fan control... but it doesn't change a thing..
Thx,
Syco

What does your custom fan profile look like? What temperature range do you have at 0% fan speed?

wondering, if i need to flash this firmware if my card already uses zero-fan-mode?

does this mean, i'm already on the new firmware?

thanks!

EDIT: just found out, i got the card with the new bios preflashed.

^ How would you recognize if you got a preflashed card already? Is there a note in the box? or just observed it that the fan is not spinning below such degrees? Thanks! Btw, where did you bought your new 970 SC ACX 2.0?

Your card has the ACX 1.0 fans. It will never drop below 35% fan speed. Only the ACX 2.0 fans switch off.

TY Jacob. Flashed and working fine.

As mentioned before: is there any chance to provide fanspeeds below 35% @ acx 1.0?

Unfortunately no, for ACX 1.0 fans 35% is the minimum allowed by the fan motor.

But how the 04G-P4-0974-KR is listed and is ACX 1.0...? I own a 04G-P4-0974-KR card and the update.exe keep closing :(

I have the zero-fan-mode. I checked my bios and it's the one mentioned a few sites earlier as the current one.

I ordered at a german shop called anobo.

Sadly i have severe coil whine and a pretty intense fan sound when playing.

Hello to all the forum users.i am new to this forum and very happy that I have an account here on this forum.I like EVGA products very much, specially the GPU's.
I am considering in buying a EVGA GTX 970 SSC Acx 2.0.Also I have a few questions about it and I would like to please ask the owners here the following:Does this card have the so called coil whine (noise level), how are the temperatures (idle and full load), and also do I have to update the firmware so I can get 0% fan ....I am waiting for your replies.I would like you to honestly answer my questions.thank you.

I not sure if you're correct there, please confirm? ... as my model is listed in the download list ... as I put in my original post:
04G-P4-0974-KR
So does the '0' in the 0974 part mean it's version 1?
Where the last 4 links for D\Loads start with a '2'  e.g. - 2974

Yet this isn't listed here - is 04G-P4-2974-KR the same?

Hey guys,

go a 970 yesterday because of the 0rpm fan feature but the Firmware update won't succeed.
OS: Win 7

I was able to open the specific Update.exe and press "Y" twice, but after that, the only i got was blinking cursor.
Tried procedure as mentioned in OP before and after reboot.
Complete deinstallation of all nvidia components  and also disabled security essentials didn't help either.

Any ideas that help would be appreciated!

A question asked several times already - can we download the 1.0 bios anywhere to return back to having the 35 percent minimum fan?

Pre-bios update the card was running happily at 27-28c idle, but post update it runs closer to mid to high 40's on zero fan causing a rise for my CPU also.

Whilst I can set up a profile in Precision, I would sooner I could return to the original bios rather than rely on software.

Sounds like the prior two posters should swap cards; make you both happy.

@normski-- I see my system stabilize with card and CPU temps around 42C, with the GPU fan off.  Drives and MB sensor are reporting 35-36C.  Sure, someone with a different case and CPU might run mid-to-high 40s, but that shouldn't make a difference to your CPU fan speed.  Or if it does, you can maybe tweak your CPU fan curve in your BIOS.  (Or via SpeedFan util....)

Since your CPU fan is going to be running regardless of anything else, that sets the minimum noise floor.  Manually adjust the GPU fan speed until you just start to hear it, so its fan noise just starts blending in with the CPU, PSU, and case fan(s).  Then run with that as your minimum fan speed, to use the best cooling level on the GPU without adding a noticeable amount of noise.

The original v1.0 fan curve was way too aggressive for my ears...the card doesn't need the fans going at ~35% to stay reasonably cool when it's only pulling ~10W aka 10% TDP at idle.  Well, I guess you could roll back the BIOS and not run Precision if you prefer.

Any Ideas? Things i can try?
I think about to just send it back. Might be the easiest solution...
