The functionality works like this, user fires up machine, holds down the "ALT" key, the system displays icons of all available boot Volumes including name of Volume, be that on SSD's, Optical Media or removable media, user either clicks on the the desired boot volume or uses left/right arrows to select then hits enter or clicks the arrow, the system then boots from that volume.
