That means new, matching cards from Nvidia are already being put into production - I'm sure.

Probably 8GB 980s, they'll still be well within the power envelope and y'know, better.

Too bad they didn't just do that to begin with.

Not really sure if this matters.  The new technology and the decreased wattage of the GTX 980 is a big difference even with 2GB less of DDR5 RAM.  Not sure why a GPU has to be able to store this stuff, as the motherboard RAM already does that.  If this eliminates that, which is doubtful, then this may be something to consider.  I will need to see what is going on, as I may be able to step-up from my newly purchased Superclock GTX 980's.

Targeted at Eyefinity users is my guess. With the bottom falling out from under AMD pricing in recent weeks it's still compelling for multi-display gamers. I see this really late in the product cycle though. The only thing that makes this interesting is recent pricing. I have a few 3GB R9 280X I wouldn't mind updating to R9 290X 8GB that are used extensively in Eyefinity configuration.

Completely pointless for one card, but they prepare for CF maybe.
We need single card 50-60% stronger than Titan Black with 8-12GB Video Memory.
Reference model, and than manufacturers will have space to build 10-20%
stronger models with OC and than we could talk about enough video memory.
But this situation look me as delay next 12 months before GM210. What they think to launch I'm not sure but probably some Ti models and overclocked models with more memory and similar thing. NVIDIA is smart in pulling money. Exactly one month after all brands launch their premium cards NVIDIA prepare same with more memory. Or "overclocked" GTX980 with more memory.
I mean overclocked by NVIDIA, with different boost and BIOS under new name or some prefix and AMD do similar things sometimes.

I'm mostly wanting both sides to get past 28nm. TSMC is screwing things up for both sides of the fence.

How about DX12 and Mantel. The two APIs use a lot of the video cards resources. Would this bump to 8GB benefit the new DX12 and current version of Mantle?
