Hi since yesterday I am a owner of a GTX 970 FTW,

i choose EVGA card because the Zotac Extreme is to expensive and to big for my tower.
I ordered MSI GTX970 4G but it was not in Stock (this was my first choose)
I noticed that all EVGA 970 s looks same there is no other design for the FTW !!

But here is my question! I installed my card with ACX 2 the new and the nex NVIDEA drivers.
I start my PC the fans not move because of the silent mode.
I start 3D Mark and Valleybench to make a speed test.
( I recognize the    what is a problem for the 970`s)
Now the fans move because card gets
above 60. I finish benchmark and return to desktop. Temperature gets under 60 and the fans
stop moving.

Here is the problem the fans not stands still correctly It seems that they move everytime
a little bit and stop again just for 1 second.

Video Link youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=QFUUn2m89OQ&feature=youtu.be

I post a video an youtube so you could see what I mean it is 1 min long. In the
middle of the video you see both fans.

Is this normal?? I have 3 years  but i still worried if it is not good
for the cooling system.!

I want to ask how high can I go with temperature If I want overclock the card ?

Thank you for your help

If your card hits 60C for whatever reason, the fans will kick in.

Intel Core I7 4790K @ 4.8GHZ
2X EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 SLI @ Default Clocks until drivers improve
2X Samsung Evo 840 SSD
ACER XB270H G-Sync 27 Inch monitor
Corsair Vengance Pro 2400Mhz DDR3 2X8GB
Some fans and other stuff.

Try to reflash and see if it fixes it. If not contact support, may be a bug in the bios for that particular card.

Yes I think it is a bug too. The fans think they should move but stop after 1 sec. So I think it is the software on card which
would think to turn on the fans but stopped immidiately again.

yes thank you I already update bios  of the card with the newest update from here .First I think it
could work but I still see no difference!

Hey,
i just got my 970 FTW today as well.

I have exactly the same thing as you. I think it's normal, because: Evga's cards didnt have zero movement fans until they saw that almost all other manufacturers had it, then they quickly implemented it on the software side. I don't think the Evga zero fan movement is really optimized, thats why they do these small idle movements.

If I'm wrong and this is a serious bug, please correct me.

Is the card idling right around the 60 degree mark, or is it well below? Does adjusting the fan profile with PrecisionX alter the behavior?

Well, my card idles at around 40 degrees. If i alter PrecisionX fan profile with lets say a minimal fan speed at 20% (which i planned anyway) it fixes it.

@julizs Thank you julizs so I am happy that i am not the only one with this!!! I think you are right they implemented it in a software update because the other custom cards like Palit or MSi
have this too. Maybe the bios software is not optimized for this!!
Maybe is a bug too I hope this problem increase the lifetime of the fans because this cause problems!!!
Maybe some moderator from this forum can answer this question!!!

@bain64
Card is about 45 degrees in desktop mode! So very below under 60. I tried that with precision X and turn off the auto mode for the Fans
but it still make no different. It is still the same.

I hope a new update can fix this but if this is normal and no problem for the fans it will be ok.
But i need a answer from a member of EVGA!!!

No problem hehe. Can you tell me which clock your cards gets up to @ stock and if there is a buzzing noise coming from your card when benchmarking or gaming? Mine goes to 1531 Mhz but sadly i get a loud buzzing sound when gaming.

Concerning the lifetime of the fans because of this bug...we have a 5 year EVGA warranty, So i am not concerned about that at all haha.

Yes the sound comes from benchmarking.I overlcock the card with settings that i have from this page:

Fans are very loud than.
Use GPU Z and Precesion to watch the settings:
GPU Clock: 1315MHZ
GBU Boost Clock: 1466MHZ
MEM: 1915MHZ

But I can still go up with setting i think this is not the limit.I use Valley Bench and 3D Mark for testing!
Had the Zotac 680 before but now my system is more fast.

3DMark I have 9937 Points
With overclock of the card my system reaches 10712 Points!!

Nice, what do you have in valley Extreme HD? I have 2601 points when overclocked to 1600Mhz.

I hope the buzzing will go away soon.

Don't worry about it.  It's no problem.

What you SHOULD worry about is the fact that you never removed the plastic film from your card.  That plastic film over all the stickers can get loose and sucked into the fan and cause a fan blade to break or cause the fan to stop and cause the card to overheat.

i remove everything the label from the fans too. The only thing i left on the card is the sticker on the back with Part and Serial Number. On the sticker stands
not to remove it. But the sticker on card and the 2 on the fans I remove!!! So if you say it is ok and not damage the fans or cool system it should be fine.
But I still hope they clear this with the next bios update for the card!!

There are also very thin protection films on the blue evga logos; on all three. But you have to be careful when you take them off.

Is that some kind of law EVGA is complying with, or European competition to keep up with or what? Strange it would be that far apart.

Yes, I have the same behavior. At 0% there are slight movements every 5 seconds or so. Have no idea why, maybe it is some issue with bios but until benefit of 0% with these movements is better than to have fans constantly on - e.g. 10%, I'm ok with that.

What temeratures do you guys have in 0% mode ? For my 970 SC ACX2.0 it is 49C. With 10% fan it is about 35C.

Hmm, this is strange, what card do you have ? If my fans are off, I have 50C. On 10% I have 35C - how this is possible, seems there is really an issue with ACX2.0 coolers. Fortunately, in load it will reach max. 74C on 38% so no problem for the card...
